I wish it could be fixed, but it can't. America has been too pussified to go back to where we were, IMO.
However, the time of governments is started to fade. It's the private sector that will be the driving force behind our next great age of mankind, include our gaining a permenant foothold to the stars.
And I suspect we won't be taking very much government with us, thank God. We'll leave that shit behind on Earth for the remaining pussies and pesants to play with. Besides space travel is a harsh teacher, and any liberal mush-brained fools that think that good intentions make a real difference will probably die off as time goes by, leaving a hardier breed behind to continue the adventure.

Interesting take.
Of course when the New World was discovered, the companies/royalty sent their criminals and exiles there. Then there were the indentured servants, slaves, outrageous taxes, no representation.
And let's not forget the rabbits runnnig amok. Jesus, there are soo many rabbits.

Ehhhhhhh.............. yes and no.
Not ALL criminals, though there were certainly some. Georgia was founded on that idea, certainly. But not all the early European colonies were peopled by criminals.

I'm torn.
I'm down with space, certainly, and our exceptionally risk-averse style is certainly not what got us there in the first place. But, I also think there's better places for the money. Namely, back in my pocket.

Agreed. I don't want the government spending my money on space anymore. I don't want them spending it on anything at all.
Leave space to the compentent folks in the private sector. Enough with the comedy of errors we've had since they invented that damned space shuttle.

Within 30 years Asia is going to catch up and surpass anything the USA did on the moon in the 1960's. Those governments will be putting a lot more capital into the effort than any American private company can afford... and this leaves us at the original point of the letter. Where did America peak?
At this rate we'll be lucky to donate a crew module on the Chinese Mars mission.

Save the space program, kill a lawyer.
