For years I've heard the arguments how an internet sales tax was needed, as retail outlets with overhead costs... land and buildings... couldn't compete with online retailers.

Thought the argument was that states and municipalities were losing out on revenue?

I find taxation on the internet to be yet another issue of manipulating the free market for no good reason. If internet companies destroy brick and motor locations, so be it. But I expect there will always be a call for local businesses.
