CNN is claiming that they are still looking for the unknown motive for the attack. One thing I am looking forward to with a Trump administration is for the MSM to make stupid assed claims like this only to have the Homeland Security guy come on immediately and say "It's Islamic terrorism".Leisher wrote:Apparently the OSU campus cop has been trained by Israeli special forces. On a different note, I'm quite stunned nobody has yet pointed out this dead dude being a refugee and the 10,000 refugees Obama wants to being in. Or have they and I just didn't notice it?

I want to say some pithy thing about religious devotion and mental illness looking extremely similar, but I don't want to be a dick.
I think, like most of them, he is just insane and religion gave him his motivation.

I don't want that. The worst thing about twitter/internet (aside from user comments) is people rushing to judgment, all the damned time. The UVA rape, the Muslim/gay nightclub attack... so many assumptions that ended up being wrong.Vince wrote:CNN is claiming that they are still looking for the unknown motive for the attack. But you have to admit, reporting to the world that there is a gunman is.pretty fucktarded. If they have to claim their reporter is an idiot, so be it. They need to become better at admitting where they suck. A homeland security announcement would help that.
I also want the pres to go on TV and name the senators who block legislation and say why.

In his own words on August 25th:
"I'm a Muslim, it's not what the media portrays me to be." I'm certain that he was meaning to imply he's not a terrorist just because he's Muslim. However, there are many people who think the media is very left wing and would be just as likely to tell us he's non-violent. I mean, here he is being profiled in a media outlet saying those exact words...
From here.“I just transferred from Columbus State. We had prayer rooms, like actual rooms where we could go pray because we Muslims have to pray five times a day.
“There’s Fajr, which is early in the morning, at dawn. Then Zuhr during the daytime, then Asr in the evening, like right about now. And then Maghrib, which is like right at sunset and then Isha at night. I wanted to pray Asr. I mean, I’m new here. This is my first day. This place is huge, and I don’t even know where to pray.
“I wanted to pray in the open, but I was scared with everything going on in the media. I’m a Muslim, it’s not what the media portrays me to be. If people look at me, a Muslim praying, I don’t know what they’re going to think, what’s going to happen. But, I don’t blame them. It’s the media that put that picture in their heads so they’re just going to have it and it, it’s going to make them feel uncomfortable. I was kind of scared right now. But I just did it. I relied on God. I went over to the corner and just prayed.”

It's all about context there. When he says "the media" makes all Muslims out to be terrorists, he's talking about Fox and the right wing punditry. And he's right. When you say "the media" is very left wing and would say all Muslims are non-violent, you are talking about MSN and the left wing punditry. And you are also right.

Isn't saying Fox labels all Muslims as terrorists a left wing tactic? I mean it can't be true, right? Right?TPRJones wrote:It's all about context there. Also, I find it interesting that he felt so threatened on a college campus. College students are so busy trying to show the world that they're more progressive and have no hate that he probably could have gotten several to kill themselves for him so he didn't have to go to jail or be killed.

Re: Islam - the thread of peace and tolerance
If you're afraid to have your regularly scheduled conversations with god, fucking hell, where to begin:
1) I assume a higher power has better shit to do besides worry about who's kneeling in which direction, when they're doing it, and how many times a day it happens. For some unfathomable reason, most religions insist that their deities have a Santa Claus complex stretching far beyond "obsessive" and into "Lifetime made-for-TV movie obsessive."
2) Perhaps this is the sort of shit you should have thought or asked about before your transfer.

Furthermore, the use of the verb "have to" instead of something more pleasant like "venerate" indicates you feel like this is a fucking chore more than a chance to chat with Allah.I just transferred from Columbus State. We had prayer rooms, like actual rooms where we could go pray because we Muslims have to pray five times a day.
3)
With what going on? I'm trying to think of the last time a Muslim on a major American campus got rabbit punched during Salat.I wanted to pray in the open, but I was scared with everything going on in the media.
4)
ANYWHERE. Your god is supposedly omnipresent. He doesn't give a fuck. I'd also be shocked if there's not at least one Muslim campus organization with their own space, either. This place is huge, and I don’t even know where to pray.
5)
Go fuck yourself and climb down off your particle board cross. The only person who's uncomfortable in this narrative is you. The rest of the students around you aren't going to give a fuck. But, I don’t blame them. It’s the media that put that picture in their heads so they’re just going to have it and it, it’s going to make them feel uncomfortable.

I don't watch it on purpose, but it's what my doctor has playing in his waiting room. But as I say, it's a rather limited sample, so I don't know.

Yes, the rush to call it a mass shooting and calling for more stringent gun control was so much better. Labeling all Muslims as terrorists - WRONG! Labeling all gun owners as potential psychos ready to go off and kill innocent progressives and gays - ACCEPTABLE AND RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM.TheCatt wrote:I don't want that. I've got to say, Vince has a damn solid point there. (And it's an extension of Catt's point about rushing to judgment.)
Folks are really concerned about not labeling him a Muslim terrorist, yet nobody's said shit about how peeps immediately started up the "ban guns" talk even though a gun wasn't used by the asshole, and a gun saved the day.
Something I noticed on my most recent trip to South Carolina (I'm there now) is what news channel is on TV in the lobby. I'm 99% sure this isn't intentional, but during every other trip I've taken, which is 20 or so visits while Obama was president, the TV in the lobby had on CNN, while the TV in a side room with tables for overflow during the morning breakfast had on FOX. This is my first trip down since Trump won the election and the TV in the lobby is now on FOX every day, while the TV in the overflow room is on CNN. The staff is all the same, so it's not that. I wonder if someone at corporate dictates stuff like this and they go by focus groups or what they think people want right now.

On the bright side, he probably doesn't feel uncomfortable about where to pray on campus anymore. The only person who's uncomfortable in this narrative is you.
When I do watch the news, which is usually only when there's a major event, I do my best to watch a balance of Fox and CNN. I know both are biased, but I figure getting both sides gives me a good chance of seeing the true story.I don't watch it on purpose, but it's what my doctor has playing in his waiting room. Re: Islam - the thread of peace and tolerance
Here's why this "rush to judgment" thing pisses me off. People are very selective about it. He posted on his freaking Facebook page a rant about the US involvement in Muslim countries right before he started stabbing people. This wasn't a rush to judgment. This was rational sane people taking him at his word until we have evidence otherwise.Leisher wrote:I've got to say, Vince has a damn solid point there. This one is even weirder than the chick being abducted and beaten by the two chicas.
The German citizen of Spanish descent confessed to secretly converting to Islam in 2014. From there, his story took a stranger turn. Officials ran a check on the online alias he assumed in radical chat rooms. The married father of four had used it before — as recently as 2011 — as his stage name for acting in gay pornographic films.

I've already been reading elsewhere, "Don't just assume it's because of Islam, that's racist, and besides we may never know the real motive."
I have this amusing image of Europeans constantly defending those poor barbarians, bombs, trucks through christmas crowds, christian girls raped and lying to not get anyone in trouble... and every time another mass murder happens, they knee-jerk into the defense. And one day one of these people says, "Hey don't just blame muslims!" and he looks around, and he's the last non-muslim in Europe, and they're all just around him, looking at him. Fade to black.

A truck barreled into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin on Monday night, killing nine and injuring at least 50. Officials are investigating the crash as an act of terrorism, according to a German intelligence official familiar with the matter.
That's all I know.

I thought it might be those damned radicalized Amish until they said it was a truck rather than a horse and buggy.

Last night, CNN was running, as it's headline, an article saying that the true problem was that attacks like this emboldened and empowered the hard-core right wing.
I cannot find it on the main page any more, but here it is from their opinion section

Yes, the real problem with terrorism is that it makes people react to it. Not the people dying. That's not the problem. But beyond the immediate panic and horror, there also appears to be a potentially more pernicious reward to the forces of the political far right best positioned to capitalize on such a tragedy.
Indeed, the domestic political fallout of both incidents promises to carry far beyond the borders of Germany or France, spreading a radical shift to the right that holds the potential of upsetting not only the ruling elite, but the very glue that holds Europe together.
It's not me, it's someone else.
