... government makes the laws, but that doesn't mean what they're doing is LEGAL

Um... it does, actually. If you make the laws, and follow the laws, that's legal.

If you make the laws, and follow the laws, that's legal.

1) There is the main problem, they don't do that in a lot of situations, and 2) there's a lot of unconstitutional shit going on even if it's allowed by the laws Congress has passed, which I think would make it still illegal.

This isn't FB, but it applies...

I'm currently explaining to someone why the email they sent me (the urban legend about the wedding where the put photos of the screwing the __ under all the guests' chairs) is bullshit.

The worst part wasn't when I had to define Urban Legend for them. It was when I had to explain that just because it was in the email, that doesn't mean it's true.

"But it said Jay Leno talked about this on his show!"

Now this person is a senior citizen, but still...

Jay Leno talks about Santa Clause sometimes. Doesn't mean he's real.

He didn't say that Jay Leno said it... he said the email said Jay Leno said it.

I love that logic.

That's the same logic I get from some people about religion.

"The bible is completely true!"
"How do you know?"
"It says so right in the bible!"

Backstory: in the RTP area, there is a town called "Durham" (by the way, there IS NO SUCH TOWN as "Raleigh-Durham." That's the airport). Durham is...well, there's a lot of black people there, so it has a reputation for being the Detroit of the area. Meanwhile, there's a suburb of Raleigh (note: there is no such town as "Raleigh-Durham." That's an airport) called "Cary." Cary has a lot of...well, relocated Yankees and other awful people. It's very white-bread, McMansion, whatever.

A friend of mine who lives in Durham posted this on FB:
http://www.runawayclothes.bigcartel.com/product/the-i-d-rather-t-shirt

One of HER friends commented: "it makes me laugh, because it's true....ps, I never felt unsafe the whole time I lived in Durham....but all the bougie white folks in sCary...I mean Cary....I can't deal "

Right. Those "bougie" white people are SOOOO scary. Also, Durham has "character."

Durham has the highest per capita murder rate in the state. Highest violent crime rate, etc.

Btw, I live in Cary. I like it because it's quiet (seriously, you can't even yell, or it's a crime), it's safe (lowest crime rate in the country for towns of its size), and it's nice. People are pleasant, the schools are great, and kids are polite.

Durham is a festering hole. (I used to live there, too)

As long as I don't yell, I should be fine.

Pretty awesome. Although the other year there was a dude robbing a bank, and I didn't really get the sense that the police knew what to do.

They came immediately when my neighbors called when our landscapers' truck hit a white fence post that belongs to the neighborhood. (No fence post was actually harmed)

This was from a friend of a friend.
Do yourself a favor and from time to time check what kind of emails your parents are receiving from their Fox News watching friends.

I noticed my mom got an email from a friend of hers which had a picture of tattooed rapper "The Game" on it saying that this is what Trayvon Martin actually looked like and that he wasn't the innocent 17 year old kid the 'liberal' media had portrayed him to be. Obviously it took me two seconds to go to Snopes.com and disprove this nonsense.

Parents in their 60s, 70s and 80s, just like young children need help navigating the Internet and understanding what information is true and what is false.

Today there are plenty of entrenched interests trying to scare senior citizens into buying more insurance, voting Republican or purchasing the next Bill O'Reilly "novel" and it's our job as their children to protect them. Please do your part and have a conversation with your parents about the inter-webs.

Oh wow... from the same person
Guns are bad and so are assholes who use them to kill kids carrying skittles.

...
"conservative" and "libertarian" are code words for "possibly racist paranoid white person" and in my opinion these are precisely the people who shouldn't be owning guns

If there's two things I hate, it's stereotypes and crazy right-wing fox-news watching old racist white people. They're all alike.

Social networking sites are a massive conspiracy to encourage all the decent human beings alive to commit seppuku so the retards can take over the world.
