A third person action game that puts you into the cockpit of a mech.

The storyline has your group tasked with hitting a planet's defensive systems before an invasion force arrives. Essentially, you're clearing the way. Upon your arrival you face opposition and then discover an evil group has already entrenched itself there and you proceed to kick ass.

That's really what this game is about, destorying shizzle in a mech.

The story is pretty light and pretty confusing. I mean, who are the good guys? You are a merc that accepted a job to help invade this planet, yet you help out the civilians of that same planet from another group that's already there? WTF?

Still, its all about the action and you'll find lots of it. The missions start slow as you get a handle on your mech and work their way up in difficulty. Eventually, you'll be driving around various mechs, destorying bases, fighting tanks, copters, other mechs, etc.

The graphics are workable, but not the best. This game would look incredible on a PC, but the X-Box is limited by the TV and its own old parts. The later levels, which contain more enemy mechs, are clouded in dust storms. Basically, its a desingers trick to hide the lack of detail and to keep system performance high by only showing you small parts of the area around you. It actually backfires as the later levels are hard to see and thus you lose your immersion and the game plays more like an arcade game.

The levels are all very linear with set paths you must follow. No strategy is needed as all fights are simply run and gun until someone dies.

A sequel is coming that apparently will focus more on the storyline and have better graphics.

The game is a blast, but very short. I believe there were only 15 or so levels.

Worth a 5 day rental and/or buying it used for $10-$15 (how I got it).

6 out of 10 stars.

I don't have X-Box Live.

Considering nobody I know does either, I don't really see myself getting it.

Sure, it'd be nice to update my roster in my sports games, but I haven't heard about any outstanding downloadable content that's a good reason to subscribe to X-Box Live. And to be honest, if there was, the first question that would come to my mind would be, "Why wasn't it included in the game itself"?

$$$ :glare:

Why give it away when you can charge for it later?

Yes some of the reason it wasn't included was because of $$$ but a game would never get released if they waited on publishing it until everything they wanted was in it.

I don't think the downloadable content would be the main reason to get xbox live, I would be into it for the oppenents and sports leagues you could set up.

XBConnect
I saw this on TechTV awhile back.

Basically, it's a free program. You run the program on your PC, plug your Xbox into your router, and it tricks the Xbox into thinking that it's hooked to other Xboxes via LAN, when it's really connection to your buddies via the Internet.

I don't have high speed at home, so I haven't tried it.
