Well hell, apparently the Patriot Act was sunsetted, but it has been renewed... twice?

Doesn't seem to scare politicians re approving bad legislation.

I would set in a requirement that any legislation that gets extended more than, say, 20 years past it's original death date has to be enacted as an ammendment to the constitution if they still want to keep it.

Yes, that's a pain in the ass, but anything on the books for over 20 years is either way outdated or should be in the constitution.
