So, I've looked in detail at a few items, and every one so far turns out to be cheaper to buy than to build.
For example, the Moa is on the market for a little over 7 mil. If you were to buy all the bits to make it at the current lowest available prices, it'd cost you 9.8 mil. Or, looked at another way, if you already had the pieces you could sell them for 9.8 mil and buy the Moa for 7.1 mil and make a profit of 2.7 mil and not have to wait two days to build it.
The trade skills will change that later, of course. With Procurement you can put up wide radius buy orders for cheap prices that people who don't watch the market much will fill with their junk. Then you could get a Moa built for less than 7 mil, easy. But for now, buying seems the better way.
Just my observations about it.
