Been on the look out for good deals on a 40+ incher for the house the SO and I are going to rent next year.
Walmart seems to have a few good black friday deals. They have this TV for 598 on black friday.
They also have a samsung with similar specs online for 598 right now, and it actually has a higher contrast ratio: Here.
Any other good deals out there?

My shit Samsung BD-P1400 blu ray player will have me trying to avoid Samsung products for a good long time.
And right now, LED TV's seem to be the new hotness. The displays in Best Buy are the best looking TV's they have in the store.

I bought a 50 inch lg at sears a while back internet special for 699. use it at the bar and seems pretty good. would buy another

Watch those ads. If you see a great deal, read the fine print. These stores are only stocking a handful of the "black Friday deals". It's a bat and switch tactic.
I know some consumer advocacy groups are bitching about some of these stores only stocking 2-5 of the item they're advertising to millions of people.

I went with This.
Really good deal, and I can just go ahead and order it now and not worry about it being bullshit.
Went and looked at the difference at Wal-Mart today and also saw that it was 700ish in the store.
720 at 10 feet is indistinguishable from 1080 on 42" and that plasma looked SOOOOO good in store compared to the other ones.
The refresh rate was making sports look amazing.

Word of warning when comparing TVs at stores. The display is often heavily affected by the cables/distribution amps they use. Many times, you can see a difference between two TVs. Swap the cables, and now the one that looked bad looks better than the one that looked good. So, if you're looking at two TVs and you are going to base it on which one looks better at the store. . . be aware. Now, if the TV looks awesome and you like it, then you're all set. It's still going to look good (given good cables/signal at home). I'm just saying, don't ever be there saying "I really wanted TV-A, but it doesn't look as good at TV-B". It could be the cables/signal to that TV.

I believe that may be the set I have had for about 3 years. Great tv and no problems. Now our new 32 inch samsungs that we bought for the bar have had lots of problems

Manly moment this afternoon. TV delivered to me at work.
The TV box wouldn't fit in my now wimpy car. I had to take it out and buckle it into the backseat. Where it fit, if snugly.
