Let the slaughter commence.

Best quote :
"On the surface, it does seem like they've come around a corner and are committed to doing things right," Rick Ebert, a security representative from the California Institute of Technology, told Computerworld.com, adding that he was impressed by the security changes and additions that Microsoft built into Vista.

Right, secure. This is the same damned company that thought Vista should have a completely rewritten TCP stack.

I don't think this is a bad move at all. In fact, kudos to Microsoft for doing it.

By releasing it to these people and asking them to hack it, Microsoft is making it public that they intend to make security a priority. You think corporate America isn't taking notice? It's a great PR move.

Plus, NO software is truly safe from hacking. Anything can be hacked. However, if they use the results they get to lock out the amateur hackers by really locking down the easily hacked stuff, then maybe they eliminate a good percentage of the threats average users face.

Personally, I'm rooting for MS to make a good product here. Whether anyone likes it or not, they're the top dog. Most people are going to run XP or Vista if they buy a new PC today or within the next several years. Their experiences will reflect what they do on that PC.

If MS can give them a more secure world where they don't have to worry about popups or viruses, then maybe more people will buy PC Games, come play online, shop online, etc.

This is a step in the proper direction. A step. They've got another billion or so to take before I consider them above my contempt.
