OK Those of you with knowledge of my network. Server plus 4 computers network fine. When the 5th computer tries to connect, message: Your network connection has not been restored because the remote computer is using all the available connections.
WTF

I have no idea how to upgrade from Home to Pro. Never had to do it. I'm sure you don't want to scratch/reload that server.... you run a lot of apps off of it.

Windows XP Home Edition allows a maximum of 5 other computers to access its shared disks and folders simultaneously. Windows XP Professional allows a maximum of 10 other computers to access its shared disks and folders simultaneously.
The "extra computer" is obviously some secret monitoring device on your network. Probably the corrupt, yet oil-rich Canadian government. Something must be done about them.
Upgrading to Pro is the solution.
You can get an XP Pro Upgrade CD for cheaper than a full version. Installation is a cake-walk. It used to ass-rape your system but Service Pack 1 chemically castrated it. I haven't had any problems upgrading since then SP1 came out.
Shut down your programs (especially the antivirus), insert the XP Pro Upgrade CD, and follow the directions on the screen.
Piece of cake.

TiVo? The networkrouter itself, or the WAN, maybe?

OK all upgraded and so far so good. The program kept saying "NVidia AGP Filter is not compatible with Windows XP" and the setup would crash. Found the instructions for fixing the error la la la. Everything went fine but the program never prompted me with the "Where is the Nv_agplsys file" Seems to work but I will keep the instruction forms handy. Sure as shit when everyone comes in tomorrow something will not work.
Oh the joys of Self Employment.

Day one
XP Pro hangs up everytime I try to download updates from web. Not sure if this is a big issue
One data folder located in program files on the drive is inassessible from the other computers. Fixed by moving the data out of program files into a new folder on the c drive.
All other programs are integrating fine.
Any comments?
PS: My daughter, the receptionist, commented yesterday that she did not know her Mom could do so much. lol

There are lots of reasons why Windows Updates don't work.
Try try again.
It'll make you download a piece of software that validates your copy of XP before it lets you get the updates. If you don't download that ActiveX bit (it may appear as a yellow bar in Internet Explorer) then you can't get the updates.

For some reason, my copy of XP Pro doesn't do that. Never has. Yet it updates just fine. Not sure why, and don't want to ask too many questions because I don't want it to stop.

Check the system date. If it is not current, WinUpdate will hang at 33%.
For some reason.
(I accidently set a system date a year older... and had this problem)

That is exactly where it hung up. When it says validating and Active X la la la. Set to defrag as I left tonight.
Stay tuned for day 2 as everything worked all day today.

I have that problem on my laptop, only it *tells me* that my Win2K Pro system's date/time are off, so it can't do updates.
The date and time are correct.
I'll look for a fix whenever I decide I need an update.
