All right, I'll tell you the situation, and you give advice and I'll tell you whether or ot I've already tried it....... because I've been working on this issue for the last couple hours and it's stupid.
Situation:
-New server hardware/fresh WinXP install.
- SATA hard drive, formatted NTFS file system.
- Moved a folder onto it called "Photos" containing 3 gigs of pics we've taken over the years.
- Right-clicking on the "Photos" folder shows that it is set for "Read Only."
- That is not good. The wife wants ot rotate some of them, but she can't from her system.
- <s> I can rotate them from my system.</s>
- I am an admin on my system, and she is an admin on hers... but this may not be relevant, because...
- Even logged on to the server as an admin, I uncheck "Read only," hot "Apply," say "Yes, I would indeed like to include subfolders and files," and it does it's thing...... but when you right click on the folder again, it still says read only and we have the same editing issues.
Mission:
- Defuck this.
+++
--- what's odd is that she can rename the file names, she can edit a photo and save it under a new file name, but she can't edit a pic and save it under the same file name. <s>Yet from my system, I can. </s> So it's not truly "read only" when you can change the file name.
There's lots of pages out there with people having the same problem, but none of their answers are fixing me.
