I think the - is the most accepted.
I remember looking that up awhile back. It was something like 85% of DVD players could play +, and 95% could play -.
I assume that by now those percentages have gone up.

Best Buy says that -R is the most compatible version as well. -RW means it's rewritable. I use -R and it's been flawless (as long as you get good blanks). Dynex suuuuuuuuck. About 20% of them were bad and had to be tossed. But, what do I expect for $3 for 50 blanks.

If DVD is anything like CD format, the RW's are going to be more expensive, and harder for a lot of machines to read.
I never used CDRWs.
I'd go with CakeDaddy's advice and stick with - media.
If you're looking for a recording device, look for one that supports both formats.
Though, if I was going to buy a DVDRW drive I'd probably go cheap than get one with just -, rather than spend $20 more for a +/-.

I use +, but then I never try to make video DVDs to play anywhere but my computer.
+ hit 8x first.

I bought my DVD burner at CompUSA for 49.95. And because it was under $50, I got a 2 year warrenty for $7. It supports R-/+RW-/+ and all the CD formats too. It's a LiteON in a BusLink box. It always worked fine. When I recently flashed the firmware, it got better/faster.
Just checked CompUSA's site. That drive is now $85. I must have cought a sale. I KNOW there was no rebate though.

I use DVD+R NOT DVD-R. Was just doing some burning and happened to actually look. Then it clicked that I said -R here.
I USE DVD+R and they work on all DVD players in the house. (Unless they are Dynex and then they suck)
The explination I've read is:
DVD-R: Plays in some set top DVD players and all PC based DVD players.
DVD+R: Plays in most set top DVD players and all PC based DVD players.
Hope you didn't stock up on the wrong type.

What I've read (I posted links earlier) was the opposite. -R plays on most (97%) DVD players, and +R played on some (87%) DVD players.
But yeah, I assume they both play in any modern computer DVD drive.

I've heard the same as Paul. - is better.
But + is faster.
