Apparently SP2 does actually fix one problem I've had with Partition Magic 8.

I had trouble downloading SP2, but seem to be getting the IT version (an install from a file, rather from a download. It also contains more bling so the file size is much bigger) fine. I'll probably install it this afternoon.

The county here (my current employer) has blocked the download to networked machines. Seems that the lockdown of ports causes all kinds of havoc on a lot of programs we run.

Har har. From what I can tell, XP SP2 is defaulting in locking down all the ports and you have to turn them on one at a time. Problem is, with a few thousand PCs, you can't touch each one to do so. They're working on it, so I'm told.

But doesn't it lock down the ports simply by turning the firewall on? So you could just turn it off to get back to where you probably were in SP1-world.

Unless you had individual ports turned on on each machine?

I found it amusing that my brother told the installer "twice" not to start windows internet firewall, despite its pleads to leave it on, and after the install it turned the firewall on anyway blocking his access to his wireless network

I don't know how long he spent troubleshooting before checking if the firewall turned itself on because he thought the damn program would listen to his instructions.

The SP2 popup blocker got me a few times. That is, I thought it was an advertisment and clicked it closed without reading it.

I also like how it warns you if it doesn't detect an active antivirus program.

I just keep waiting for some big problem to arise, but haven't found it yet. So far everything's been smooth.

So where are the after-action reports... I know some of y'all have installed sp2.

I'm mainly interested in knowing what it did with ports you had open on your routers.

Upgraded one of my machines today. So far no issues, but it's my dev workstation, so no real server access going on.

First machine looks good 48 hours later; just upgraded my workstation. Firewall installed "on," but so far it hasn't been anything I couldn't deal with.

So far so good.
