Second time I'm jetting to Chicago to see Pete.

It is Chicago, so driving's not out of the question. Thanks for voting in local congressmen without the nads to dismantle it.

I'll let you off if you don't vote for any offices at state level or higher. But there is the matter of those taxes you pay that props it up.

Because if you don't vote nobody will be elected.

But there is the matter of those taxes you pay that props it up.

You don't pay taxes? Not even sales tax? Are you Wesley Snipes?

I pay way too many taxes.
It's not me, it's someone else.

I often wonder ... what if they threw an election and no one showed?

You don't pay taxes?

I'm pointing out G's implicit TSA support since he kicked this off. If I wanted to be a bastard, I could say he probably pays more taxes than I do overall, especially if he files jointly.

And you sumbitches are jacking the thread.

I blame you for directly paying the TSA fee attached to your ticket. It's way more than the percentage that comes from my meager tax bill.

I HATE not flying. But I won't with the TSA, and the TSA isn't going away because people continue tolerating it by flying. So thanks for that!

I'll put up the cash from my 2-3 tix per year versus your annual taxes. I'll find the goddamn percentages somewhere.

Doesn't matter! The people who keep flying are the ones who keep the TSA in the airports. :-D

The airports could be a desolate wasteland and TSA jackboots would still echo their fiendish cacophony of heels endlessly stomping on a human face.

Disagree. The airlines would pitch a fit.

Disagree.

Thing is, people like to bitch about the TSA, but most people don't care enough to actually stand on their principles and not fly... so that tells the government they have not yet gone too far with restricting civil liberties. So great.

There is no "too far" for them. They just haven't found an excuse yet.

And I don't disagree. Personally, my limit of being treated as a potential terrorist was when there was more to it than a metal detector. Others' tolerance is much, much higher.

Last time I flew was to LA and back, in 2006 or 7. Couldn't walk well then, couldn't stand on one foot, had to take off my shoes and belt, got no assistance, got yelled at for being slow. It is a violation. My rage was about 1 second from getting me put into jail. So that's my limit, and I know I can't do that again... especially if I saw some piece of shit high school drop out unionized TSA agent touching my son as a potential terrorist.

As I said, I hate not flying... but I am not willing to be a suspect in order to do so.

Perhaps when driverless cars are the rage, I'll cut back on the plane tix. It's shorter by a few hours each way, I don't have to navigate, my vehicle doesn't get excessive wear and tear from roadtripping. Hmm, it is Chi-town and Megabus does go through ... might look into that.

Alrighty, best I could find is that the TSA is funded by:
1) A $2.50 per flight segment (maxed at $10 round trip) tax,
2) gouging airlines for other taxes
3) direct taxpayer support
4) playing finders-keepers with any cash left in airports

Means I chip in $10-20 per year with my flights. At the current federal minimum wage ($7.25/hr), that's not amounting to a lot.

Great. Thanks for flying and showing the government they haven't gone too far in restricting civil liberties.
