The gym I go to plays different music styles on different days. Some days rock, some days dance music, never country, thank god. Today was... well, I'm not sure what the style is called anymore, but Gwen Stefani's "If I was a Rich Girl" was played. Pop?
Anyway, I noticed this on past days and I paid attention today... 7 out of 10 songs they played contained samples of other songs. I can't remember every single one, but one was Extreme's "More than Words," another was Soft Cell's "Tainted Love," and of course the Gwen Stefani song isn't original. I want to say I heard some Thomas Dolby in there somewhere, but I may be mixing up that recollection with something else.
Is this the trend, anymore? Music from the 80's and 90's, the music getting sampled, I don't recall them copying other peeps too much, if at all.
And if it the trend now, then who's to blame? Lazy, uninspired music artists? The labels for not finding the real talent?
