GREEN DAY, the anti-war punk rockers, swept the MTV Video Music Awards in a sign that American popular culture is turning against US presence in Iraq.

Uh oh. You lose Green Day, you lose the war.

"American popular culture" is Hollywood and the music industry. How can their opinion of Iraq possibly be changing?

I even liked their mindless repetitive music back in the day. They won based on political propoganda, not good music.

Bilderback, remember this is music- "A Hooker with a Penis?" Tool was right, they sold their soul long ago to make records. Why should you be surprised that they have changed tones?

Not suprised.... not even disapointed. 'Alternative' music went from fringe to pop-culture politics as a whole. Then, so did punk rock. Rap's doing it right now. Lets face it, any music that may start out disestablishment will eventually turn pop. Luckily, there will always be some othe rmusic there to replace it.

Look at the bright side... in 30 years Green Day may give a free concert for 40 protesters outside of Camp David.
