The state has begun accepting applications for bonuses for war veterans who served anywhere in the world during the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts.

Eligible veterans could start applying Tuesday for a bonus of up to $1,000, with up to $6,500 available to family members of deceased veterans from those conflicts.
Veterans may be eligible for the bonus if they served between Aug. 2, 1990 and March 3, 1991, and any time since Oct. 7, 2001.
Voters last fall approved Ohio's ability to borrow $200 million to pay for the bonuses, similar to bonuses previously awarded to veterans of World War I and II, Korea and Vietnam.
