So our local area school has proposed a 1% earned income tax. When passed they will drop a 5.1 mil property tax. I estimate the 1% will cost me from 4 to 5 hundred a year. My property taxes will lower a little over 100$.
And spread the burden to all income earners, not just property owners, which helps seniors on a fixed income. Helps farmers who own large tracks of land.
Lower pay to play sports fees to 20$ from 75$. All parents will receive free passes to all home sports events.
So if you are a parent, farmer or senior you seem to benefit. Why do I feel like I get the short end of the stick.
A couple more things in the article struck me as funny. They eliminated 788,000 from the budget by getting rid of 1 administrator, 7 teachers and 1 secretary. That is 87,000 apiece. How much money do these people make.
There is the you have 2 options statement. You can chose the 1% or 5.1 mil. How about option 3. I just vote no. Of course I am outnumbered by seniors, farmers and parents they all have hooked now.
Taxes - How to lower them
Welcome to democracy.
Well, they also have to account for a) the employment taxes and b) cost of benefits (pensions, healthcare, etc).
It's pretty reasonable to assume that people cost about 50% more than they earn, $-wise. So, in your example, that would work out to $55-60k/person salary.

It's not me, it's someone else.
Just occurred to me. One of the other things on the ballot is a bill to jump start our casino projects sooner. To get people working quicker and get that money to our schools faster. Wonder how much our taxes will go down then?GORDON wrote:I've done the math. I own 4 pieces of property in this district, and I (the household) still pay(s) less with their 5 mil property tax than I'd pay with a 1% income tax.
In marriage there is always one person right. And the other one is the husband.
