FPS

Had my eye on this one a while back and picked it up somewhere. Humble? Steam Sale? No idea.

You're 106, and your organization is fighting against an evil company called Horizon. You're the BFG of your group. But there's another player in this game...

The story is very thin and honestly makes zero sense. I cannot stress that enough. And before you ask, I have no idea if there's a Trepang 1.

But really you're here for the visuals and the combat. It looks nice and the combat is pretty solid. It does get a bit repetitive as you're mostly fighting the same enemies or variations of them. There are two "mutant" types, which is apparently why many call this a successor to F.E.A.R., which imho is an insult to F.E.A.R. That game was horror first, this game is not. There's nothing remotely scary here. Anyway, those mutants are rarely seen. One type is only in one level of the game, and the other (a single beast) shows up 2 or 3 times.

There are a couple of different modes to really boost replayability for those inclined.

Where I found issues with it, besides the nonsensical story, was the pacing/level design, and AI/difficulty.

First of all, there's lots of backtracking through levels in this game. An acceptable, albeit cheap, way to extend a game's length. I've no issue with that. Where I do have an issue is the layout of rooms combined with how many hits some enemies take. Things get a bit cramped, and considering your limited ammo, and something else I'm about to cover, it's fucking difficult.

Upon launching the game, I went with Hard difficulty. There's Easy, Normal, Hard, Something harder, I think another one, and then Rage Mode. This game made me feel old because while I was doing fine in Hard, there was one area that kicked my ass. The problem is that in Hard mode, the enemies almost always immediately know your position. At the very least, once one sees you, they all do. They can also seem to see you even when you turn on your cloaking device (only lasts a couple seconds). Perhaps it has a range or they can hear you? I don't know, it's not really explained.

I genuinely have no idea how people are beating this game on Rage Mode.

If you never play this game, you're not missing anything. If you get it for $5 or less and enjoy FPSs, you could do worse.
