A one shot, one camera movie that follows head chef Andy and his crew through a busy weekend night at his restaurant.
Pros:
-Outstanding acting. There is not a single performance that is weak. Everyone absolutely crushes it.
-There are no breaks or down time. One shot, one camera means you're always following something.
-The story will keep you engaged.
Cons:
-Almost all of the plot points are too large for a single evening. So prepare yourself for unresolved plot threads.
-In the same vein, some things you wish could get more time, can't and don't.
-Table 7 is the weakest part of the movie by a mile. There's no nuance or subtlety and it comes off as forced and lazy. Also, nobody is giving away a table that orders the two most expensive bottles of wine to start their evening. That's too big of a tip to just trade away for no real reason.
This is an excellent movie, but it won't be for everyone. This is a character drama, so don't expect anything aside from talking. Also, the unresolved story lines can definitely turn people off, but it's to be expected. It's a single night at a busy restaurant, so if you're looking for perfect bookends to everything that happens, you're insane.
