A look at the series history for those who never played.
I remember this level well.

I got a free copy of this recently for buying an AMD video card, or whenever it comes out.

I am intrigued. Let me know what it's like. Have many fond memories of Thief.

Metro: Last Light has a LOT of thief elements if you choose to play it that way.
Extinguishing lights. Sneaking up on guards. Letting them live or die. Etc.

My entire combat strategy in Fallout 3 was Thief-based. Stealth, darts, mines, grenades, unarmed combat, light armour. Curious now.

I've been promoting the Metro series for some time. Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. I don't remember Metro 2033 having as much stealth, but it's been a while since I've played it. The story goes through both though.

I was going to throw it up on eBay, but if anyone here wants it, let me know... I've got enough games I haven't had time to play.

Sweet. I'll take it. Would give me incentive to get a desktop.
EDIT: My enthusiasm for it almost guarantees suckage, though.

Due to a generous donation by catt, I've got the Thief reboot coming my way 25-Feb and am doing the pre-loading thing as I type this. What's more is that I noticed Steam also had:
i) original Thief : the Dark Project, Gold edition. 3 bonus levels plus original game. Those levels were cut from the first release, but they (Looking Glass Studios) went back and finished them for a new edition. I have never finished the "Haunted Cathedral" level without resorting to the cheat. Not enough fire or water arrows or holy water, coupled with rooms full of undead that cannot be knocked out.
ii) Thief II : the Metal Age. Don't think I ever beat the last level.
iii) Thief : Deadly Shadows. Buggier than an entomology department storeroom, so I avoided it forever. Hopefully they've been patched.

Gabe from PA had a blurb about the game. Looks like he got his hands on an advance copy. Good things, at least. I hear the factions are gone, though. Thief won't be the same without the Hammers.

Alright. All the stars have aligned. My machine's ready and I have time. So far...
Through the prologue partway through Chapter 1. Highest difficulty level. They intro some random side character I don't know. She doesn't last long. The swoop feature is going to be huge. I dislike that they've taken away arbitrary jumping and replaced it with "hit the hot spot and climb." I am dying a shitload less from missing the jump to my rope arrows, though. Not sure how I feel about the "focus" thing. It lights up all the hot spots with images of inventory items you can use there. I suppose I'll change my tune when I hit my first dead-end and give in. Melee'd a few guards. Don't know if I killed them or knocked them out. It's called a "takedown." Did it to one of the wrong characters, I guess, and failed a mission.
The Geforce GTX 780 Ti-OC is kicking some ass.

After more playing...
Holy fuck. There are custom difficulty options. Some are positively evil. There's one which means the first death of your game means you lose and have to start over from the very, very, very beginning. Hard-fucking-core. Like if you die on the last chapter, you have to start at chapter 1 again.
Thief I and II gave you a heads up for all the "special" loot up front as part of your objectives, if you ticked a high enough difficulty level. This version gives you no such list until after the level is over. I'm already replaying the first chapter after I found out I missed half the l33t l3wt.
Also, this "focus" thing is deeper than I thought. There are 8 areas with 2 tiers in each that give you a certain type of bonus. One focus area might make you less noisy, another might make you pick locks faster, etc. Well ... sumbitch. Focus Intuition Tier 2: know location of unique loot.

Shit. Guess they hired some of the dumb-asses from Deadly Shadows to do some programming. Two corrupt save game files plus a couple crashes.

Iron Ghost run. You can't buy supplies or alert any mobs.

I think I bought this during a recent Steam sale.
