So last week a prick snowplow driver was flinging snow cross-traffic, and caused a bunch of accidents and injuries. It went viral.

I get Turnpike emails, because I have the EZ-Pass toll transponder. They addressed the issue today. They were apologetic, said that one driver was not representative of them as a whole, and it included this:
Affected turnpike customers who have not yet filed a report with OSHP should do so immediately. We are relying on contact information from the accident reports to inform our customers how to file a property damage claim online with the Ohio Turnpike so that we can reimburse them as quickly as possible.
Is this.... like.... a company actually acting morally??? I ask because I don't recognize it and don't know what I'm missing.

They know they are guilty, there's nowhere to run. Better to just pay up and get it over with before lawyers get involved.

It's been demonstrated that companies often choose lawyers instead of paying employees/victims/whatever. So this is still surprising to me.

ALso, the Turnpike has a bad rep in Ohio for being generally corrupt, heh. When the road was paid for it was supposed to become public and free, but instead, what I heard, was that it was sold to the mob.

I had not heard this story. What an idiot.

And yeah, I think the turnpike is acting responsibly, as well as, wisely in the business sense. Just act quickly, fix the cars, and hope it all goes away.

Never heard this one before. It wouldn't shock me as the mob used to have a lot of pull in that industry, but even if true, not sure it's still true.

Quick google says a commission made up of 10 members. 6 are appointed by the governor, 1 is the Director of ODT, 2 are appointed by other government officials. They are paid $5k each. So, while probably still corrupt, not owned by the mob. A petition to privatize it was started, but never adopted. All signs point to Ohio still owning it.

My understanding is control has changed hands more than once. I heard the mob used to run it.

I recently figured out that the Ohio Turnpike, which now has transponders and just auto-reads your traffic as you drive, has been overcharging me as a Class 2 vehicle, sometimes. Like, I pass gates 1-6 on a trip, and it overcharges me on 2 of them, while correctly charging the others as Class 1. The times I hit the gates are on the record, so clearly I never had time to hitch a trailer or add an axel which would make me a class 2.

I contacted them about it about a month ago, have gotten no response.

I just contacted the Ohio Attorney General about it, I'm curious about what will happen. If they're overcharging my plain vanilla F-150, they're overcharging others. This could be millions in overcharges per year, if not per month, in this quasi-government department. It could be a big deal.

Or, I'll be murdered over it and nothing will happen.

Does Boeing own the turnpike?

Nah but there's the old Mafia connections.

Doesn't even need to be organized when someone is at risk of losing millions or going to jail.

Under the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act, we perform informal dispute resolution for complaints that involve a consumer transaction, which is a product or service purchased primarily for personal, family, or household use. After careful review of the information provided, your complaint does not fall within the purview of the Consumer Sales Practices Act; therefore, our office is unable to perform informal dispute resolution. You may want to contact a private attorney to determine civil remedies available to you. If you do not have an attorney, your local bar association may be able to provide you with a referral.
Pretty much bullshit. They don't want to look, so they won't find anything wrong.

I'm not the only one complaining.

But remember.... the state attorney general says this isn't their purview.
