I could see Ds being willing to play ball and go after Biden at this point because it gets them political capital, makes them look like they're willing to go after their own in the name of doing the right thing, and helps them replace him without them actually dumping him. This is at a time when the opposition is the very unpopular DeSantis and the popular/unpopular Trump who is facing tons of legal issues. Point being the Rs aren't in a position to take advantage.
However, I could also see them fight this tooth and nail because nobody in DC is able to see farther than the next election.

After the testimony and before ANY news stories were out, both sides had reps on Twitter immediately discussing it. Rs were saying this is the biggest corruption scandal in American history. Ds were saying this was a big nothing. Each had completely different version of events. Their cultists were giving each version likes showing they don't need proof, just need to hear it from their preferred color of tie.

It's very easy to take pay away from people who don't typically vote for you.
