I got a "I have video of you jerking it to porn" threat about a month ago. They wanted about $3k in bitcoin, or they'd email it to my entire messenger lsit. They also provided me an ANCIENT user name and generic password i used to use on gaming sites in the 90s, as proof of their hacker skillz (they just got the data from some site that was leaked).

I don't have a webcam on my porn PC. I ignored it.

I get them about 2 times a week. Sometimes more. They all have my old Linkdin password, but no user name. They DO talk about how they sent the message to me from my own email account cause they hacked it.

Each one is my last warning.

1. Google Fi has done a pretty good job silently screening those calls for me. Like, 95% success (I like to not think about any legitimate calls they've blocked from me).

2. Will be interesting to see how the scammers get around the tech. Might make things worse overall, if they can then bypass Google Fi screening.

For the last 4 days or so, there have been about 10 attempts to hijack my facebook, and overnight last night someone in Ontario is using my email address to try and order food from various places, and they are all failing because payment is not being processed. I've checked my online money accounts, and none of them are getting dinged.

What's the scam, here? These food orders are set up to pay with cash. Why use my email? That hasn't been hijacked?

If I were a scammer, I'd use random person #1s email with randoms person #2s payment info.

Got a call Sunday night from another co-worker who fell for the "hey, go buy some gift cards and send me photos of them" scam. $1600 and change.

Two people in my company have fallen for it. Both men. One white, one black. Both college grads. Both from SC colleges. :D

Well, getting embarrassed for getting caught out as a dumbass IS more important than network security.

People falling for crypto scams after making LinkedIn contacts.
Soe’s story is not unique. A group of victims defrauded on LinkedIn which meets regularly over Zoom recently invited a CNBC reporter to join the session, as long as the participants’ faces were concealed and their names not revealed. Their losses ranged from $200,000 to $1.6 million.

“We just never thought there could be such malicious intent behind a LinkedIn profile,” one victim who lost $350,000 said.

“The fraudsters hide behind successful companies,” another victim who lost $200,000 said. “One of the biggest reasons I accepted the invite was the person stated on their profile that they worked for a legitimate company.”

“We’ve lost a lot of money,” a victim who lost $700,000 said. “And it’s not just all of our savings, people have lost their houses and their car loans. It’s life destroying and soul crushing.”
Who the fuck is this stupid? I'm sorry.
