You know, I didn't hear any complaining when minority actors got these roles

I voted with my wallet.

Or, I was racist with my wallet. Whatever.

That's not just a role or two, that's both casts almost being exclusively minority. Seems very, very intentional.

And those are just the traveling casts. There are 3 more fixed casts.

At any rate, we're going tonight.

Maybe it's because of all the rapping? In which case, racism!

Just googled the original cast and it's mostly black people. Who knew?

I think we should create a musical based on the life of George Washington Carver and cast only white people and see how that goes over.

Let me know how it is.

I thought everyone knew?

I cannot imagine it lives up to the hype.

I automatically dislike it because of the crowd to which it's catered.

I DOUBT I'd learn anything new (or accurate), but I've had college american history classes more recently than you, probably.

Oh, definitely. I did take one US history class in college, but I can literally only remember the Revolutionary War period. It may have been entirely about colonial US up to the war, now that I think about it.

Yeah, AmHis classes seem to be broken up like that, 0 --> Civil War, then post civil war, unless you take 2-300 level courses that might just focus on a war or specific situation.

It was really good. A friend I went with did not know it was an all minority cast...

At any rate, well-written, well-acted, entertaining, etc. Certainly the most entertaining story of revolutionary war America I can think of off the top of my head. Not as good as Book of Mormon, but for different reasons. The callbacks, music, etc, were very, very well done. Better than Phantom, maybe better than Les Mis.

I will say this. It's always nice to see the US geared up to fight someone. And, the divisions people 'have' today pale in comparison to the ones people had 200 years ago.

Having not seen it, I can only speculate what you mean.

Here's a guess: white people saw black people back then as subhuman.

By comparison, liberals today see conservatives as subhuman.

Actually, I meant more about the Constitution, the federalist papers, deciding whether or not to support the revolution, having a central bank, supporting France post-war, etc.

The current politics were (in my mind) much less noticeable. There was certainly criticism of slavery, but that was the position of the people on stage, not forced. (This guy, for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Laurens)

And, there's a line about "immigrants do it better" sung by two immigrants (Hamilton and Lafayette). But remember, this was written 3+ years ago.

Ahhh. I don't really have any context to make a good discussion.
