First time seeing a horror movie in theaters in a while. It was EXCELLENT. Different and cool.

Yes it was pretty good.
But it makes me wonder when Jim from The Office divorced Pam and got with that blonde woman. Because obviously it's the same universe.

This movie was pretty fucking outstanding.
Held my attention from the jump, and was completely different from what I expected. Why the fuck did I think this was a ghost movie?
The acting is excellent, but the direction is what makes the original concept work. Krasinski does a magnificent job. I think his only flaw was in not really giving me a sense of the layout of the compound.
The concept is original and interesting, and while there are flaws, none of them ripped me out of my immersion in the film. Post film I am able to nitpick a bit more, but it doesn't matter. I've already experienced and enjoyed the shit out of the film.
Absolutely worth seeing, but one you need to be 100% focused on or you'll miss the whole movie.

It was only 90 minutes, so that’s good. Lot of “chekov’” items, which I guess is tight plotting.
That said: the premise is kinda dumb.
Also, pitch black did it first.

There is one MASSIVE flaw in the design of the creature that hurts the story. Without that flaw, the story would be far tighter.

That nail. As soon as they introduced it, it ruined the movie for me. There was no reason for the nail to have ever been there. Why was it there? What was being nailed there that the nail was up from under the stair? And even if it served some purpose in the past, why the hell was is just left there? It's always been there, not smashed flat with the tread. If it had been smashed flat, it wouldn't have snagged the sack. It's always been there, and EVERY time they took those stairs, in their bare feet, they would have felt it. At some point they would have broken it off, covered it with duct tape, etc. Lots of quiet fix options.
Horrible, horrible writing, putting that nail there. It didn't need to be there. She was in labor. That's enough in this situation. The nail added nothing except "Why the fuck is there a nail sticking UP from under a stair?".
I hate that nail.
Also, I felt they rushed the girl's realization that her hearing aid was producing the kill sound. She needed more with and without experiences. Not a random thought on her dad's whiteboard.
Lastly, saving the girl from the corn. The kid did it with one arm. He curled his sister up out of the corn, while laying on his stomach. He should have been up on the hatch on his knees, pulling with both hands.
Those are the moments that ripped me out of the movie. I didn't hate the movie. But I hate being forced out of the moment by poor writing.

Totally off topic, but...
There is a DC book called "The Nail" that is one of the best stories they ever produced.
The nail here was just to add tension.

Day 1 of moving in I'd be all like, "WTF why is there a nail here *hammer/tap tap tap* there fixed. Someone could have stepped on that."

BTW, the nail wasn't the most annoying thing about this film. It was how poorly they executed the sacrifice. That person did NOT have to die.

It does seem like decoy countermeasures would be useful.
I haven't seen this movie for so long that I probably shouldn't be trying to in-depth discuss it.
