Perhaps the main reasons there are lifeguards is not to keep people from drowning, but to keep the state from shutting down the pools and then the pools can't make money.
1. This happened in Hungary.
2. This happened during an international swimming competition. This wasn't a Sunday at the Y.

The failure of the cops in uvaldi has me of a mind of "what were those worthless pieces of shit even there for?" Because it surely wasn't to protect people. They went out of their way to make sure they didn't do that. It must have been just to be present in the uniform, and collect the paycheck. So.... if you think about it, what's the point of lifeguards? The ones at the "Y," or any public beach, aren't going to risk their own lives for minimum wage. But a lot of places can't get insurance unless they have lifeguards.... so basically they're bodies in the high chairs that blow the whistle at kids roughhousing, right?

We need some good news today, so here's something that I've been watching for the past few weeks. Marc Cuban is the big name and money behind a new company that's getting prescription drugs to people at super low cost, and it's been making a lot of noise. Unfortunately, that noise isn't as loud as other things in the news...
