Zealandia. If tectonic plates are taken to be definite boundaries of continents, this is intriguing.

I thought the science was settled on that.

If there's one thing science absolutely does, it's settling on things and ending all debate... :D

No, I'm sure there was a consensus on this. 7 continents. Scientists 20 years ago would laugh at you and dismiss you out of hand as a nutball if you suggested an 8th, and tell you to go back to worshiping creationism in mississippi.

I'm not buying this at all.

Science is decidedly not settled on the definition of "continent." You'd think it'd be a fundamental fucking thing, like say defining "planet."

No... no... I'm not going to listen to these 7 continent deniers. Buncha nutjobs.

Continent is mostly a nebulous concept, like planet was before they refined the definition and kicked Pluto out of the club. There are as few as 7 (or maybe now 8 ) or many as 74 tectonic plates depending on how fine you slice the definition. Where the big-enough line is drawn for one to be considered a "continent" is mostly an accident of history.

I've always thought Europe and Asia were one big landmass, I don't care if there's a tectonic plate differential in there, or not.

Also just one big ocean.

There is only Pangaea. He will not divide us.

Everything is closed here on Mondays. No Continent would allow this.

Today's my B-day in New Zealand(not yet in the USA). So we took a helicopter to an active volcanic island. It was rad as all get out. Got some good stuff of the vents and sulfur streams, but the takeoff exit was the money shot:
