But I think most of the propositions for amnesty don't work like that do they? I was under the impression that they wouldn't count against the usual annual numbers of immigrants allowed. That would be more like "you've been waiting in traffic and they open up six more lanes to get everyone moving again and some other people that didn't have to wait as long as you did got to drive away, too, the jerks."
Well, I wasn't talking about amnesty. Just legal immigration vs illegal. I think it's shitty and shows piss poor character for people to think they're too precious to do it the right way while thousands of others do. Doesn't mean I think they should be killed, but they're bad people that I don't want as citizens or neighbors. Karmic daily kick in the junk would be okay.

And I'm all for streamlining the immigration process and having it make more sense.

"Precious" is the part I don't get. When I think illegal alien I don't think about entitled rich brats. I think about people so desperately poor (or persecuted) that they will risk everything by fleeing to a foreign country they know very little about and will have a hard time surviving in because to stay where they are is untenable.

Good analogy, but it presumes that there's a limited number of lanes.
Not to jump in, but legit question here: Aren't there a limited number of lanes? There's only so many resources, jobs, houses, food, clean water, etc.

By opening the flood gates and letting everyone in aren't we reducing the experience for everyone else?

Let me state that another way.

Doomsday has arrived and we're all in a bunker. It's a self sustaining environment (think Blast From The Past). Despite Gordon's willingness to be the gimp, we know we need to bring some ladies down for reproduction. So we find some. Soon another survivor bangs on our door. He's a doctor. Great! We're adding a skill! Next a small family with no needed skills comes bye. Do we give them a spot in the shelter using up our resources? And so on...

Go back to that marble video. At what point are we hurting ourselves by letting everyone in?

I'm fine with immigration. I not only support it, I think it's necessary for our survival and growth. However, while letting in everyone who shows up had it's place, I think that time has passed. Now we should be more selective, and certainly shouldn't allow in people who start off by showing us they don't give a fuck about our laws or customs.

I understand it. But there are people coming from the exact same circumstance as they are that are willing to do it the right way.

I went to school with a girl that got married. She started out as the mistress of this guy who was married to someone else. Eventually they got divorced. Because he started cheating on her. She was amazingly introspective about it. "I shouldn't have been shocked that he'd cheat on me since he was married when we started to see each other."

I feel the same whenever I hear about an illegal killing someone in a drunk driving incident. Shouldn't be surprised that they'd break the law since their very first act coming here was not respecting our laws.

Yes and no. Yes in that at any particular point in time the total of each resource is a limited quantity. But thanks to technology over time the amount of each resource changes, sometimes drastically. Plus we're talking about whether or not to throw out people that are already in the bunker. We couldn't import the entire world and have enough stuff, but amnesty for those who've lived here 10 years or more wouldn't break us.
I understand it. But there are people coming from the exact same circumstance as they are that are willing to do it the right way.
I don't think this is true. Many illegals aren't in a circumstance where they can afford to wait. Those other ones are already better off in the first place. But I'm not an expert on illegals and I admit I could be wrong. I do know many people that - if living with the conditions some of these people come from - would do anything and everything they could for their children, immigration laws be damned. I'm not a parent, but I can understand the sentiment.

EDIT: Honestly we're probably both right. You are generalizing from the worst of them and I'm generalizing from the best (or at least most desperate) of them. The truth probably includes both sets and averages somewhere in the middle. Also I have no respect for laws in general as anything other than a societal tool (and see many of them as either arbitrary or downright detrimental) while you see them as something more deserving of respect. I don't think we'll ever meet in the middle here.

I'm pretty sure it was called Modelo Negro years ago when it was new.

But you know.

I learned it one way decades ago, but some people say the other. Dunno why. And google wasn't much help. Thought maybe it was a Spanish/English thing, but I see it both ways in either language.

OK, the Modelo USA site says "Modelo Negra," and the Mexican Modelo site says "Negra Modelo" so I'm going to say it's a language thing.

This was posted all over the Twitters when the whole thing started. There were threads everywhere listing who owned what beers. It was also discussed in the article I posted in the Gender Pill thread about Bud Light losing its place as the #1 beer on June 7th:
AB lost billions in stock value and it still hasn't recovered. It also can never be considered a win when your product is #1 in a country and dramatically drops due to a fuckup by marketing. That's true no matter what brand supplants it at #1.

I think the boycott was quite effective.

Someone needs to tell companies it isn't bad to market to regular white men. Because they seem to think otherwise.
