Here's where we disagree a bit. If someone finds a way to get here and stays here for a number of years (like, say, a decade) and works hard and succeeds during that time, I think it would be good to let them stay. They've worked hard and proven themselves to be intelligent and valuable to the community, and throwing them out because they circumvented the law doesn't do us any good. But then I don't respect law itself as some sort of mystical force that should never be questioned, either. Laws are a tool, and when enforcing a law causes an injustice then that is a case where that law should not be enforced. Ideally the law is then rewritten to account for those special cases, but for some reason we never do that part.

We don't need unskilled people who refuse to learn our language or culture. We don't need people who think it's fine to rape women or who think Shariah law should be the law of the land here.
While I wouldn't support a Muslim ban, I'd definitely support perma-banning motherfuckers who subscribe to the more batshit insane sects that have the most psychotic tenets of faith not written by a dude named L. Ron Hubbard. Sharia law is also another red flag that bars you from coming in. Then again, someone has to be dim enough to admit that and functionally self-disqualify themselves. I'm not a fan of giving Christian immigrants priority over the Muslim ones, either. I'll sure as hell take a look at fast tracking the dudes who have some measure of education, talent, or skill under their belts already.

If we further applied these penalties to areas other than immigration, say if we started sanctioning Saudi Arabia and cutting off arms shipments to them, then we may have a policy which approaches reason.

TheCatt wrote: In my mind, a lot of this has to do with the rate/flow of immigration. Currently, about 15% of Americans are non-native born, which, I believe, is a record for the past 100 yeasr. On the surface that is fine, but it really removes incentives towards cultural normalization and, imho, creates a bunch of strife.
Agree strongly. You reach a point where you have enough people sharing in your "outsider" status that you no longer feel alienated by not integrating.

The market disagrees.
The market can suck my dick. They're making money off of people making money by any means necessary. So what if they're doing stuff that makes cash short term, but potentially hurts long term profits?

If they were really interested in the job the guy is actually doing they'd be pressing him about why the X-Box is still a thing.

Another 200 people fucked over. Quoth the Somali hole-shitter:
Yusuf said he has been waiting for 10 years to be resettled in the U.S. and his dream now faces an uncertain future. "I was to be resettled in Minnesota. I am a teacher by profession and have been teaching at Dadaab. I was hoping to start a new life in America but we are now stuck going back to Dadaab," he said. He was a headmaster at a Dadaab school.
More than 200 refugees who had been heading to the U.S. for resettlement have been told they cannot travel as a result of Dipshit Donald Drumpf's executive orders that TEMPORARILY SUSPEND all immigration of citizens from seven majority-Muslim countries, a Somali refugee and officials said Monday.
Happy, Vince?

Look guys, all were saying is that Trump and his new administration are volatile and dangerous. We should just shut the whole thing down until we know what's going on.

We should do that with the entire government.

But wait, there's more.
A draft plan, under discussion inside the Trump administration, promises to exclude would-be immigrants who might need public assistance and to deport, whenever possible, those already dependent on welfare.

I'm okay with that. I don't like it. I think it's incredibly elitist, horribly classest, and anti-American as hell. But at least it's not blatantly illegal, unlike his other orders.

Maybe this was covered elsewhere, but H1B...why do we hate it?

I get the intent, but I'm assuming the numbers don't work?

Cuz it takes jobs from Americans. And increases supply of workers, therefore depressing the salaries of people like you, me, Thib, and Malcolm.

I was under the impression that there already were not enough IT workers. Won't this make that worse?

Because it's only supposed to be used in situations where employers can't find enough domestic folk to fill their specialized positions. It's abused as all fuck.

It'd being abused by companies. It should only be used when the positions can not be filled with citizens. Disney and others have been firing their US employees to hire Indian tech firms using H1B to fill the positions. I'm for stopping them at least until we have a handle on how to fine the companies doing this into near bankruptcy.

The companies also love it because they can fuck over the visa holder at will due to the requirement of sponsorship.

Uber CEO tells Drumpf administration to go fuck itself.
Kalanick said he was not participating because of the president's immigration order in a memo to employees.

"Earlier today I spoke briefly with the dipshit about the immigration executive order and its issues for our community," Kalanick said in the memo obtained by CNN. "I also let him know that I would not be able to participate on his economic council. Joining the group was not meant to be an endorsement of the dipshit or his agenda but unfortunately it has been misinterpreted to be exactly that."

No doubt a terrorist ploy.
An Iranian scientist who had obtained a visa to conduct research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital was twice prevented from entering the United States under President Trump’s immigration order — even after two federal judges issued a restraining order against the president’s ban, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Boston federal court.

The lawsuit by Samira Asgari, who holds a doctorate from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland...
But hey, we don't need more primitive, hole-shitting, women-hating, gay-bashing, suicide vest-wearing brown people like this in our country.

Federal judge says immigrant visas must be honored, cuz, you know, laws.
LOS ANGELES/NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge in Los Angeles has ruled President Donald Trump's administration must allow immigrants with initial clearance for legal residency to enter the United States from seven Muslim-majority nations, despite an executive order ban.

Tuesday's ruling by U.S. District Judge Andre Birotte Jr follows decisions by federal judges in at least four other states that also limited the executive order Trump issued on Friday.

But it goes further, by focusing on a large group of people from the seven nations of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen - the countries targeted in the executive order - who are outside the United States and trying to enter.

In the temporary ruling, Birotte ordered U.S. officials to refrain from "removing, detaining or blocking the entry of plaintiffs or any other person ... with a valid immigrant visa" who is arriving from one of the seven nations.

According to the U.S. Department of State, immigrant visas are the first step to becoming a lawful permanent resident, or a green card holder.

Birotte's ruling does not apply to tourists, students or business travelers with non-immigrant visas.

The U.S. Department of Justice is reviewing the order and would have no further comment, a spokeswoman for the agency said in an email.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security cited its policy of not commenting on pending litigation.
