Microsoft's UWP

Microsoft's Universal Windows Platform is their attempt to make developing apps for multiple platforms easier...so they say.

It seems they plan to push this despite skepticism and push back from developers.

Tim Sweeney is really going all out in his attack on it claiming among other things, Microsoft will use the UWP to "break" Steam and force everyone into only using Microsoft's software distribution platform.

This might explain Valve's SteamOS?

I can't believe how much worse this place has gotten after Ballmer left. Was he the insane strongarm dictator over there holding back the even loonier warlords?

I get going after Steam, but to try and "break" your code to force them out because you can't develop and market something better is unethical and pathetic. If I was a shareholder, I'd be demanding that Sweeney's accusations be investigated, and if true, fire the folks responsible.

"Slowly, over the next five years, they will force-patch Windows 10 to make Steam progressively worse and more broken. They’ll never completely break it, but will continue to break it until, in five years, people are so fed up that Steam is buggy that the Windows Store seems like an ideal alternative. That’s exactly what they did to their previous competitors in other areas. Now they’re doing it to Steam. It’s only just starting to become visible. Microsoft might not be competent enough to succeed with their plan, but they’re certainly trying."
That's attributing far too much long term planning and competency to MS.
