Pokemon Go

Working this weekend, so not doing much gaming.

BUT - I convinced my better half to download Pokemon Go and try it out on our walk to the store for dinner tonight.

She found and caught 3 Pokemon, and hit a bunch of Poke-Stops at the parks on the way for Poke-Balls and Eggs(?)

And that's about as far as I am understanding the game so far. You walk to public places, you find pokemon. I think there are Gyms out there too that you can fight other players at, but not sure how that works. Interesting concept - I see some people getting hit by cars and getting robbed by doing this. At least it's making nerds get out of the house, though.

So it's all the fun of online asshats and their antics, except in person? Sounds awesome.

I got level 5 today. I went to a gym, but I don't know what I'm doing, and didn't want any of my Pokemon to die, so I didnt. The lowest CP at the gym was 380 or such, and my highest is like 82.

I've never poke'd anything before. We did run into other players though. They're pretty noticeable by their complete absorption into their phones. You'd think 'that's just like every once these days,' and yet it's noticeably different.

I got an egg. It needs to go 5km to hatch. We walked at least 1.2 miles, and the game recorded 0.8km. Fuckers.

But, it got us out on a hot day.

I downloaded this to see what all the fuss is about. I've captured 29 things, but have no clue what to do with them or why I care. I know you're supposed to take them to a gym or whatever, but if I can't play while sitting on the shitter...

Just read this tidbit:
If you want to complete your pokedex you will literally have to travel the world. Some Pokémon may never spawn in your state or country.
Seems to me that's a complete lack of understanding your audience. What would be the purpose of that unless they created some things that were region specific like a melonhead pokemon for the midwest and Russia.

Historically, as I understand it, you can trade Pokemon, so maybe that's coming in the future.

Basically, in the game right now, you can:
1) Collect Pokemon, generally by walking.
2) Raise pokemon (eggs) by walking
3) Level up Pokemon (by recycling other Pokemon)
4) Fight at the gym.

I did my first fight last night. I had no idea what I was doing, but I beat 1 Pokemon.

How do you raise them or level them up?

The game is pretty light on instructions.

If the cartoon is any indicator, have them beat the shit out of each other. Animals need gladiatorial combat to grow.

Yeah it is. there's a reddit sub that has a lot of info and a FAQ. I have not read them yet.

I read this, which helped some

Basically, from what I gather so far, you want to wait for kinda rarer ones that natively have a bunch of CP (like >100). You Transfer all your duplicates to the Professor for candy. Candy + Stardust allows you to level them up. Candy is specific to a given Pokemon.

That's about all I know.

I hatched my first 5km egg today. I then incubated a 10km and a 2km. the 5km was good, but not great.

So, juice and amps?

Do Pokemon ever die from cardiac arrest due to excessive stardust usage?

There was a rare one in my work parking lot this morning as I was walking to a rail gate to fix a speaker phone, and I had no capture balls left. Damn kids...

Already pornified. No Pokemon in the Holocaust Museum.
One image circulating online appears to show a player encountering an unsettling digital critter inside the museum: a Pokémon called Koffing that emits poisonous gas floating by a sign for the museum's Helena Rubinstein Auditorium. The auditorium shows the testimonials of Jews who survived the gas chambers.

Gordon's mocking us all on FB. Claiming he can't relate to Pokemon Go because "he's not 10 and has shit to do".

Personally, I think it's really a simple little "game", but it's interesting to find stuff around your town. This is going to be a new trend in gaming. Eventually, it's going to be done by "adult" games.

Ingress existed 6 years, no one ever game a damn. Took the same game, made it Pokemon - BOOM
