Interesting tweaks. Civ 5 did feel a bit flat strategy-wise.

Civ III through V are on sale today at Steam.
I bought the Civ IV pack cuz it had Colonization in it, and I loved the F outta that game in the 90s.

I'm looking forward to this game, probably a preorder for me.
I love how you will have to decide how to build your empire by what resources are available to you and where your starting location is at. It makes each game totally different. Changes to AI and the option for shorter multiplayer modes also sound good too.
I never did get to play play this game multi (Civ 5), but I think it would be pretty fun. Speaking of multi, how does it work? Would everyone have to be in the game at the same time and wait for the others to finish their moves before doing their own. Or could you just log in and if/when its your turn you can make your move, log out and do the same thing later that day or the next? Cause if the latter were the case then I could see us getting a good group together and just making your moves when you can get to it, maybe doing one a day or something like that.

Civ 5 multi is synchronous. All human players do their turns at the same time, first click first served where there is some sort of clash. Once all humans end turn then all the AI do their thing. If someone drops out AI will take over until a player returns (or someone else replaces them).
I've played it several times multi but we've never finished a game. It's hard to get the same people together for a second, third, or even fourth session to finish it up. Still fun, though.

Is there a way to play a game like that turn by turn?
I would be very interested in playing a long term Civ type game that is turn based. I wouldn't care if it took a year to finish.

I'd be interested as well. Asynchronous gaming is underrated.

I did a quick search on Asynch gaming for Civ 6 and found that you could do it in Civ 5 with the help of a program called Giant Multiplayer Robot.
Not sure if it will be supported for Civ 6 when its released but i'll put this link here just in case something happens in the future, it could be a valuable resource.

I don't own Civ 5, but would buy it just for a game like that. Hell, I know I'd be the first one eliminated, but it'd still be fun.
I've played chess this way (inspired by Snake Eyes), and also played a lot of games in the days of BBSs, which were all turn based.
I always found it to be a lot of fun to have those games waiting for you when you got home. Making your move, and then contemplating your opponents' options. I think the lulls between moves made it more of an experience because it gave you time to think about it.

I've got Civ 5, I'd be willing to try it.

The only downside I can see would be that the game takes 8 to 10 minutes to load into a saved game, then your turn can often take less than a minute. Repeating that could become quite annoying.
Although having multiple games going to load up your turns in the same session could reduce the overhead time a bit, I guess.

I'd want to try it a bit before committing to a big game that could last months. But as long as the load times aren't too horrible count me in.

Let me watch that video tonight and I'll cast my vote.
Are the Civ games still on sale?

Steam sale is in about 30 days. If Civ 5 drops to $20 or less I'll grab it. Even if we don't even up doing the turn based multi game I know I'll play it solo. So it'll be worth it.
Still, I'll mainly be getting it to play the multi.

It was $7.49 during the recent sale.

Great. It should hit that level again on June 23rd if the rumored date is correct for the next Steam sale.

I think it would be smart to buy the complete edition with all the DLC's it $50 right now but on sale I'd imaging its at least half of that. I've been reading the Steam reviews and people are saying the Brave New World DLC is a must have. Also, i guess most people that love the game are playing with whats called the "Community balance mod" and to use that you need all the DLC's.
Up to you, maybe you just wanna wait until October and get Civ 6.

Oh, yes, you'll absolutely want to get Brave New World for sure. It changes the game enough to make it Civ 5.5.
I'd go so far as to almost recommend not bothering to multi without it. Might as well just go play Civ 4 then.
