The spirit of the games has always been that it's a platform for everyone to drop their grievances, and compete with peaceful intent. Neutral ground. Allowing protests and statements and shit seems in direct opposition to that. Today you're giving the black power salute, tomorrow it's a holocaust denier. You can't pick and choose what's allowed, and when the floodgates open.... yeah... people will stop caring.

Cancelling the Olympics is off the table says DICK POUND.
Any opportunity to post that guy's fucking name. He doesn't make people call him Richard, he just owns that Dick. You've got to be a confident man to have that name.
Anyway, Japan is apparently about to declare a state of emergency and the U.S. State Department just issued a travel advisory for Japan. (All covid related.) So the Olympics are in trouble.

Caster Semenya will not be at the Olympics in Tokyo.
South Africa’s Caster Semenya can run 800 meters faster than any woman on the planet. But the two-time Olympic gold medalist won’t defend her title in Tokyo because her testosterone levels exceed a 2018 limit imposed by track’s governing body on female athletes competing in distances between 400 meters and 1500 meters.
Semenya has vowed not to suppress her naturally elevated levels of testosterone in order to qualify for her race, so she aimed to make it to Tokyo via a longer route. This spring, she attempted to make the difficult pivot from the 800 meters to the 5,000 meters, an event that rewards stamina far more than strength.

Semenya has a difference in sex disorder (DSD), the blanket term for congenital conditions in which infants have atypical sex chromosomes or ambigious genitalia. In court documents, Semenya recently confirmed that her DSD is of the 46 XY variety, meaning that she has female features and male chromosomes. Infants born without DSDs have two X chromosomes as females and XY chromosomes as males.
Interesting, since XY = male. This is a tough spot for rules, etc.
