It's a browser game. So, controls are VERY clunky, and response is slow. That could be because it's in Beta though. So far, I'm just mining. Collecting resources and leveling up.
The skill tree is very much like EVE where you learn stuff over time, instead of by doing. However, instead of spending money on skills, you spend experience points. So, you have to do stuff to be able to buy skills. Skills allow you to do things, do things better, use better gear, etc. A lot like EVE did.
View is first or third person and you fly with the mouse (by clicking where you want to go) or with awsd. I get the best control by using the mouse because everything is delayed. So, I click, wait, and then I turn. If I use the keyboard, I push and hold, then start moving. Oops, over shot, go back, wait, move, etc.
It's not like EVE in that you have to keep your nose on your target to fire at it. So, you have to fly. However, it's NOT a flight sim. Very basic controls and there's even an auto pilot option to stay on target. That uses power though, which is limited.
Being a browser game, you can buy experience points, cubits, etc. These are things that you get stuff with. The number of ship upgrades is somewhat deep, as well as the number of ship types you can fly.
Over all, there's a TON of potential. I just wish it wasn't a 'fracking' browser game. Performance will always be limited.
Time frame: Pegasus is part of the fleet, but I'm not sure who's commanding it. Lee is still on Galactica. It's fun to wander around and talk to the main characters. Starbuck hands out combat missions, Lee hands out collect/recon missions. Bill manages the fleet and keeps you updated on fleet status. I thought it was kinda weird that he was talking to me being that I had JUSt gotten my wings. Would have been more real if Lee gave the briefings. But it's cool to look around and see "D", etc. The music is right out of the show, so, it helps with immersion. Still a lot of bugs popping up, but, it's in beta.
Starting out, you can fly a raptor or a mark IV. Don't know what you fly as a Cylon.
Object, as far as I can see so far, is to capture sectors. You fight for them, establish bases, etc. Try to tear down the enemy's. I haven't gotten into that yet. I have only blown up rocks so far.
Honestly, this could be a really fun game, if it wasn't browser based. However, watching the videos that people have made, they don't have the flight control issues I have. They fly smooth, etc. There are some videos of larger fleet battles as well. Flying and combat require SOME flight skills, but it's definitely dumbed down for the masses.
I got right in to the beta, you might be able to as well. It's worth checking out when you have some time to kill.
