Watched season 1... wow. Really good show. Haven't watched the "XMas invasion" yet.

Some moments that really stuck with me... "Today... everyone lives!"

"Are you my mommy?"

"There isn't a little boy alive that wouldn't tear the world apart to save his mother."

And strange to see a dashing, heroic male.... openly bisexual. Those wacky brits.

Ah yes, you've met Jack Harkness! He's one of my favorite Dr. Who characters.

As good as that was, it gets better. Keep going.

Watched the 2005 Christmas special over lunch... "The Christmas Invasion."

They did some flashbacks from the last episode... reminded me that what they did with Rose in that episode... very ethereally creepily awesome. "I perceive every atom with which you are made, and I divide them."

But then in the Christmas episode, the new Prime Minister mentions "Torchwood" several times. Is that the show I've heard about? It is a Dr. Who spinoff? Is it any good?

a) Yes.
b) Yes.
c) Not according to Paul.

I hope this new Doctor doesn't suck. I really liked the old Doctor.

But not the way Captain Jack does.

I like Torchwood very much. Not as good as the main show of course, but a solid spinoff worth watching. Like Angel was to Buffy. IIRC, you'll want to watch Season 1 of Torchwood after Season 2 of Doctor Who. But then the timing might get weird, you know how Brits are about their odd seasons. Best to check Wikipedia for the proper timing.

I'm confident you'll like Tennant, possibly even more than Eccleston. I know I did.

I liked Eccleston. Tennant grows on you after a while. The newer one I'm still getting used to. He seems too young.

I miss Eccleston still, half way through season 2. I like the shorter temper Tennant seems to have, but there is an element of coolness that Eccleston had.

Tennant is admittedly less cool than Eccelston. But he's got this sense of wonder that really blossoms over the series. His delight becomes infectious.

Smith is a bit young, but I like him best anyway. Admittedly it's at least in part because he meshes so well with Amy Pond, who has rapidly become my favoritest of the companions.

Were it not for the fact that it's essentially the British Britney Spears saying that, the line would be immensely cooler.

I think that's what I enjoy about Tennant's doctor, his sense of wonder. He seems to enjoy being in the moment.

Just watched "The Idiot's Lantern."

Something bad is happening, The Doctor is trying to figure it out. Then the Bad Thing happens to Rose. The Doctor says, "This makes things considerably easier. BECAUSE NOW THERE ISN'T A POWER IN THE UNIVERSE THAT IS GOING TO STOP ME." It's awesome because you know that is true.

Very cool.

I envy you.

This is one of those shows you wish you could watch for the first time all over again. Not that repeats aren't cool and all, but there's something about it that makes that first time all the more special.

Yep, this is a gem.

I think I got a little jaded... action heroes lately have been shoot first, ask questions later.

I didn't know I missed seeing a hero that actually went out of his way to protect all life, even the lives of the bad guys. And he apologizes when he can. And they're British, and all so polite...

Situation, standoff between Daleks and Cybermen:

Dalek: You will be exterminated.

Cyberman: You are 4, we are millions. Do you think millions of Cybermen can be defeated by 4 Daleks?

Dalek: No. It would only take 1 Dalek.

I learned that when I was googling her to see if she was naked anywhere.

One thing I have learned from this show:

White women never, ever get into relationships with white men.

Always black guys. Four or five examples of this so far.

Except once a cat.

Season 3, the episodes where he had to hide from the hunters for 3 months as a human...

"He never raised his voice, that was the worst thing; the fury of the Timelord. I never understood why The Doctor, a being who had warred with Gods and Demons, had chosen to run and hide from us. Now I understand. He was being kind.

"He wrapped my father in unbreakable chains forged in the heart of a dwarf star. He tricked my mother into the event horizon of a collapsing galaxy to be imprisoned there forever. He still visits my sister, once a year, every year. I wonder if one day he might forgive her. There she is, can you see? He trapped her inside a mirror. Every mirror. If ever you look into a mirror and see something move behind you for just a second, that's her. That's always her. And for me...." it shows him putting the guy in a scarecrow suit, and hanging him in a field "As for me, I was suspended in time, And The Doctor put me to work standing over the fields of England as their protector. We had wanted to live forever; The Doctor made sure that we did."

I wasn't sure about Tennant at first, but god damn, this Doctor is intense.
