My kid is currently obsessed with Transformers, so I bought him the <s>new</s> original movie on BD, and have watched it with him a few times over the last couple weeks.

I am getting past the "whoops, my bad" scene... I just make a point to leave the room when the "OH NO WE GIANT ROBOTS NEED TO HIDE FROM THAT KID'S PARENTS!" scene.

What bugs me the most is the absolutely shit decisions that were made in cinematography. There are some truly epic battles happening in that city near the end, but we only get a a glimpse of them because the camera is focused on Shia "NO NO NO NO NO NO!" Lebouf, running, or being scared, or being confused. There's about 15 times during that battle where there is just some epic shit happening, but you get a .4 second glimpse of it in favor of being shown something boring. Ratchet and Ironhide vs. Starscream... instead we just see SHia running past. Prime vs. Megatron trading blows on a street corner... instead we see the army guys talking about "bringing the rain." Seriously, fuck that.... show the epic shit.

When we do get to see some robot combat, 97% of the time we get shaky cam and fast edits so it is impossible to feel the flow of the battle.

All in all, F- for whoever was in charge of showing us these fights.

The scene with the guy climbing the tree near the beginning (When Sam was trying to hang with the cool kids down by the lake) was very well done, though. I got to see that for a good 90 seconds. Bravo.

Also, I said before, but this movie had to have a massive human body count in this flick... I think it would have gone a long way toward making the bad guys seem... well, bad.... if we could have been exposed to... even one of these murders. We never see a single human die in this film, but there must have been, literally, thousands. Flick is too sanitary. Bad guys are bad in name, only. There was no weight to their actions.

I could barely tell the fucking robots apart. The only one that sort of stood out was Optimus.

Correction: I've been watching the original movie with him, not the new one.

I kind of liked the first one ... sort of. I mean I did yell at it a lot about how stupid that shit was, but that's just part of the modern movie-going experience, right? Overall it wasn't too awful compared to the average movie these days.

Not that it made me want to watch any of the sequels.

Seth Rogen talked Jonah hill out of accepting a role in this movie.

I'm going to say bad advice, but only because Hill didn't do what Rogen said to do instead.
