Cool. Wanted to get that large house built and need 10 stone packs. Wife is getting ready to start mining, so we'll have more. I have about 1500 logs for you as well. Are you using all that wood I gave you, or am I getting that back?

Speaking of houses and UO and ArcheAge, have you seen the large home with the huge porch? It looks just like the old TKV house in UO.

You can have whatever lumber you need. I've been using some to make bows, but other than that I have no use for it.

Although I did use 100 to build my clipper.

I'll be on tonight to transfer everything and help you if you need help with the house.

Is Jemm close to doing the trade run to the East? My alt is still sitting on that beach with his trade pack.

We did that run last night. Checked for you a few times as we were gearing up for it, but never saw you online. Can do it again when you get on next. Doesn't take long.

Yes, I have seen that house. Doesn't come with a build in forge though. :-)

Have been messing with trade packs lately. I feel those are the only thing you can do for profit. You can pick a trade pack or two that you will do, then farm the materials for it. So I've been playing with that. Have been heading into war zones during peace time to try to maximize payout. Something I figured out last night:

Ynystere is an enemy territory that goes into "Peace" mode. So, last night, I made a cheap western pack and went there just before war ended. Camped out in the water and as soon as peace hit, I went in. Was able to turn the pack in for Gilda or Crystal at 130%. Then, I went to the specialty workstation and made a pack over there. Took it to two crowns for 13 charcoal. Other than being on the open water, it's easy materials. Or Gilda if you wanted. I wish I could put my farm cart on my boat so I could do 3 at a time.

Technically accurate, but there were six of us playing it as a team at once. So it was multiplayer in a sense. But certainly not massively so.

Megawars 3 was pretty awesome. It was completely PvP. There were 4 NPC systems where you could buy resources, but everything in the game was makeable as well. You would create your own colonies in solar systems (completely raidable, conquerable, etc). The colonies persisted 24/7, and you would fly around in your spaceship, with ship to ship combat. You could attack people while they raided your colonies, etc. And the best ships were craftable only.

No NPCs except the 4 bases. It was awesome. No MMORPG can touch it.

That sounds like a minecraft-like space colony and ship building game I saw this year. Cannot remember the name of it.

So you changed the pword and didn't tell ME what it is. Funny.

The server never has, and still doesn't have a password.

The only thing I've changed so far is set one slot as reserved.

No one was on it all night except for Leisher and me. I'm going to see how often it fills up before throwing more money at it.

It threw a pword at me last night. I have always had a pword in the pword field when signing in.

It's throwing a pword challenge at me now.

Is it still steel.typefrag.com:6485?

I have to vent about this labor system again as I learned something new last night.

I was going back and forth between my two characters doing different errands and getting them to the same place so I could place my second large farm. (That was accomplished.)

Anyway, I happened to notice towards the end of the night that both were low on labor points, which was odd because earlier in the night they both had around 2500. Only my main character had done any work of substance, processing 1000 bricks took about 2000 labor points, but my alt hadn't done anything except a trade run and questing.

That's when I realized labor points are shared among all the characters on your account.

Holy shit! That is the single stupidest design decision I've ever seen in a game and I played E.T. for the Atari 2600!

At most, if my math is right, one account can earn 4880 labor points a day, and that's including drinking 2 1000 point worker's comp potions that are currently 11g on the AH. You're supposed to split that between 2 characters? 4 if you buy the expansion that allows you to double your character count!

This might be the most frustrating game I've ever played. It is beautiful and brilliant in so many areas, and about as badly designed as a game can be in others. It's made me lose respect for the Koreans since this game was designed for them, and apparently, they LOVE the grind.

In related news, I will give Trion full credit for actively eliminating gold farmers (although it could argued this game's design is their wet dream). As Stranger pointed out they mass banned 17k accounts, and have been asking in all chat for folks to report bots and they'll ban them right there. Hats off to them there.

However, next month is going to show where they're at with the American audience. The first month is ending and there are unfinished houses everywhere. They'll be falling, as will completed houses and farms that sit empty as their owners stopped playing long ago.

Does the American consumer want the same grind as Koreans? Unless they make some serious design changes fast, the longevity of their game depends on that answer being yes.

What they need to do is either completely dump labor points for the American audience or alter them:
-Allow each character on an account their own supply of labor points.
-Drastically reduce or eliminate labor points needed for certain tasks such as chopping down trees, planting crops, mining, etc.
-Do the same for processing material.

There's just no balance between the adventure side and the crafting side. There's no balance between doing things yourself or just buying them.

It's why despite all those accounts being banned and GMs actively snooping servers for bots people are still in all chat spamming their gold sites. Gold in this game can buy you the shortcuts to the fun.

And please understand that I'm not suggesting that folks should be able to craft the best stuff in a day, but this is the other extreme. They need a find a happy compromise.

You know what else they could do? Setup a new server with no labor points needed then compare player retention on the new server versus the rest. They could even do a player satisfaction survey and compare scores.

This game is so deep and there's so much to do that I could see this being around for years like UO and LoL, but this labor system might negate that.

Yeah, LP are shared among all characters on the account, but drinking worker's comp potions aren't. So if you had the max of 4 characters they each could drink 2 worker's comp potions a day meaning you would get 8k in LP. That would be expensive though.

That is the server. Just verified, there is no password. I checked both my bookmark to see if one was there (password field is empty) and the server password field is empty. When is the next time you are going to try it? I'll get in Steam and try to figure out what you are doing wrong. :-)

I'm connecting the way I have always connected. I have always had our pword in the pword field. I have also tried blanking the pword field. I can not log in with or without a pword, it tells me the pword is wrong.

Yes, I have connected since my last PC reload, so I don't think it is a firewall thing.

Stranger had a good point the other night supporting the LP system. It throttles back power gamers so they don't fly WAY past casual gamers. But:
1. There's a level limit. They can only be, at most, 49 levels ahead of everyone else. Everyone will catch up soon enough.
2. Crafting skills/abilities. There's no real benefit between being able to make them, or just buying them. There's no mark up. The only way crafting is profitable is if you farm alllll of the materials yourself. And the high level items need stuff from everywhere doing everything. So, the time invested is insane for the return. So again, power gaming is negated simply by the real time overhead in crafting high level items.

LP is an accounting decision designed to increase monthly income above the normal $15 subscription fee. That is all.

The auction house along with the lack of return while questing gimps the economy. With the auction house, the buyer is always guaranteed the lowest price for a good. There is no opportunity for crafters to make a name for themselves, build a customer base, etc. There is NO player interaction within the economy. Nothing will ever be worth more than a VERY small percentage above it's cost to make. It's 100% a buyer's market. No incentive to become a crafter. The only time it pays off is when you are extremely lucky and can get your item upgraded really high with no losses.

Like I said in chat last night. In America, we measure success based on your skills in combat and how well you can out play your opponent. In Korea, it's measured by how insane you are and how much you can put up with the grind abuse their games offer.

The only exception to all of this is pirating. They are rich with little grind.

What time did you connect? Scooty was getting prompted for a password too and I changed some stuff but it didn't look like it really changed anything. But he couldn't test right away but now you can connect? Maybe I did fix your stuff after all.

I was on a few minutes ago and heard you talking and you wouldn't talk to me, so I told you to go fuck yourself and closed the window.

But I have always had a pword in the server pword field when logging on.
