AND..... this particular scene, in the book, was actually much worse than what we got on TV.
But the character was different.
I have a feeling part of what disturbs people is that we were first introduced to this actress who was pretend-raped last weekend when she was about 13, in season 1.

So... what episode was this? I'm in charge of censoring scenes for my wife.

S05E06, very end.
They don't actually show anything.... we see another character's looks of horror, and hear the actress's screams of pain.

The way it started and having the other character there was clearly about power over her and so it could be classified as - at a minimum - marital rape through coercion. But the swelling music volume makes it hard to say for sure if those were "screams of pain" or more like wails of sadness and discomfort.
It's really all about the look on the other character's face more than anything else that makes it seem so rapey. Like the infamous crowd reaction scene in Fight Club where not seeing what was happening made it seem so much worse. And here that watching character is so unbalanced it's hard to judge those reactions.
That's a long way to say that the sights and sounds of actual rape are very minimal and probably less intense than has been shown in some network crime procedurals, but the way it's presented the viewer may not perceive it like that.

I usually watch these twice before the next episode airs... I haven't been able to watch this one again.... or if I do, I'll stop before that scene.
I remember them as screams, my mind may be exaggerating. I think it was as much as a punch in the gut as was the viper v. mountain fight.

Oh it was well told. The people making this show are masters at their craft. I think the only reason I didn't take it that hard was because I haven't read the books and only knowing the characters as they've been presented in the show I was already expecting the inevitable rape scene to be much much worse than it was. But then we haven't seen the aftermath yet.

Without names by the time someone knows enough to figure out who we mean they'll already be expecting it. But in the interest of safety I'll shush.

I figured the entire internet blowing up over this, everyone already knew.
But I too shall shush.

We watch the season at the the end when we have all the episodes ready. And I avoid finding out as much as a I can, except when the internet blows up (eyeballs last year, rape this year, wedding, etc) so that I know when to tell my wife to not watch. I still try to not find out the details too much, though. So at this point, I still don't know the names, but I have hints.

I have a friend here in the company begging me to give this show another chance so he has someone to talk to about it. We'll see...
Meanwhile,

I saw Queen Cersei in person, today. I would have paid to meet her but then line was a couple hours long.
She's a tiny thing.

In spite of the "no nudity" clause she put in her contract after season 1 or 2, she went nude again in this current season. Our little Emelia is growing up.
