I would be stunned (well, not 100%, but mostly) if Texas' job was open at the end of the year. That'd just be stupid.
I'm kind of stunned you'd be stunned. Every network that covers Texas and every "expert" show has Texas firing Charlie Strong unless he finishes 6-0.
I agree with you that it seems dumb to fire coaches so quickly, but...
Look at OSU and Michigan with Meyer and Harbaugh. Immediate turnarounds. Meyer took a 6-7 team and went 12-0 with them his first year. He should have won the national championship against Notre Dame. However, stupid ass Gene Smith let the team play in some lame Christmas bowl the year prior, and thus, we were banned by the NCAA from bowls Meyer's first year. So you're welcome Nick Saban because Alabama shouldn't even have been in that game. Meanwhile, in his second year Harbaugh has Michigan undeafeted, and they should be when they come to Columbus on Thanksgiving weekend.
So what's Charlie Strong doing?
-The recruiting classes haven't been great, which is a huge sin in Texas as they're one of the "Top 5" football states.
-Texas has regressed badly on the defensive side of the ball, which is Charlie's expertise.
-Texas' biggest booster thinks Charlie Strong is a great position coach, but shouldn't be the head coach.
-And a bunch of other reasons you should watch those pre/post game shows to hear.
FSU - Are you assuming he's leaving for LSU?
Yep. If he doesn't the FSU job won't be open.
ND - Kelly's done a lot of good. But it is a rough year.
He has, and honestly, who can Notre Dame get to replace him? Your school is remote, religious, has much higher academic standards, you're not in a conference, and you're sitting in the middle of Big Ten country with Ohio State and relevant again michigan.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Bama being on my list. I've covered this before, but if Bama wins this year I think Saban heads to TV. He's told a lot of people close to him that he's almost done and doesn't want to be Bowden or Paterno.
