Malcolm, my mechromancer has an Assassin mod that adds 36% melee damage and gives +3 skill points in...something. Sound useful?

If it's a skill I utilize, yeah. Which one?

I've been hanging on to the same class mod for about 10-15 levels now because it's got +2/+3 to a couple important skills and outstanding melee damage bonus, relative to its level. Been looking for an upgrade.

I'm calling Sir Hammerlock's Safari right now.

I'm hoping season pass is on sale during the Steam sale or another sale. I would definitely do $15 for it, especially since I got the game for $30. $20 or individual ones for $5/each is a maybe. But the game has been a lot of fun.

For turret guy, initial playthrough in TVHM is MUCH easier... since I have my turret. Just finished escorting claptrap around, only died 1x when i was being careless and encountered 2 super badass monsters with my turrets depleted.

And, is it just me, or why do the pistol and SMG even exist in this game? Aside from the 5 level fight dome, I've never needed em.

SMGs and pistols are good at putting lots of rounds into the air in a short order. SMGs seem to favour fire rate while pistols generally have a better damage and reload. They both have better reload and (mostly) fire rates than assault rifles.

SMGs are "mid-range" weapons. Problem is they aren't that great at mid-range unless they're scoped and their stability is good. They're better close up, but if you're doing that, then why not go shotty? SMGs and pistols tend to have bigger mag sizes than shotguns.

There are class-specific mods that jack one weapon type over another. Lots of assassin class mods that boost pistols, for example.

They are viable weapons, though. My Zer0 has a corrosive pistol that blasts the everloving fuck out of anything in armour. It drops constructors without too much of an issue.

Basically what Malcolm said. Instead of shooting a target once per seconds for 75 points of damage, you're hitting it 3 times for 35 each hit.

Also, each shot from elemental weapons has a chance to do that damage.

One shot from your assault rifle might have a 30% chance to slag, and your SMG only a 15% chance, but if you're hitting 3 shots for every one of the assault rifle, odds favor the SMG if you're trying to do that elemental damage.

My experience has been
Assault rifle -kill with one clip
Smg -kill with 3 to 4 clips.
Dps on the smg like half or worse of assault rifle.

Assault rifles ... fire rate doesn't do it for me sometimes, it's too fucking slow. In addition, I think there are base subtypes per type, e.g. some assault rifles are fundamentally made for long distance killing, and some kick worse than unmounted machine guns, unleashing death at close range. All the SMGs/pistols are mid to close range.

SMGs/pistols ... Pistol damage usually outdoes SMGs. As Leish points out, higher fire rates mean more chances for elemental effects. In addition, and I cannot overemphasize this, reload speed for pistols is generally fucking awesome. Reloading my assault rifle takes forever by comparison.

If all you care about it DPS, assault rifles look like the only logical automatic weapon choice. I have yet to find an assault rifle that tears through loaders like my pistol, though. I got to take into account accuracy, stability, and reload time as well. DPS don't mean a thing if you can't hit accurately. Most of the time, just setting your sights on something is good enough. However, a stable pistol/SMG (which tend to be more stable than assault rifles) can reliably dish out crit shots at a high rate because my gun isn't jumping around like a tweeking crackhead. That's how I plow through the loaders, and constructors especially; I don't hit for as much unless I crit, but I crit more often than with a rifle. I won't even go into the futility of trying to gun down a buzzard with an unstable gun.

You're also forgetting reload speed and clip size.

I had an SMG that had a 1 second reload speed. It was like I never had to reload, just buy more bullets. On top of that, it had the grenade feature when you reloaded!

I have yet to find an assault rifle that tears through loaders like my pistol, though.

I don't know where I got it, but my Mechromancer got an assault rifle (at lvl 29 and behind us in the story) that does 1900+ damage and has corrosive elemental damage. I honestly do not remember where she got it, but it drops robots fast.

She had another corrosive one I was using, but I think I'll pass it off to my Axton as the damage is more in line with our current weapons. The only problem with it is at range it sucks. It seems like the bullets fire in a circle around targets...

Pistol I got is scoped and can snipe with greater accuracy than my rifle. Your rifle sounds like it has accuracy and\or stability issues.

The second one does, the first one is pretty accurate.

First time I looked at the stats I about shit. Thought it had to be a mistake. How the hell do I have an assault rifle that does over 1900 points of damage, not even counting the elemental damage?

The gun is worth over $15,000. I just can't remember if I used a golden key with her or not, and that's how I got it...? I remember not even using it for the longest time because I didn't love it, and wasn't anywhere where robots were walking around.

Then I found robots...

In TMHV, I've found 2 Orange weapons so far. Both strangely similar, grenade mods.

Each grenade spawns 10 grenades, that then each spawn 10 grenades. It's like a grenade festival every time I throw one. Wipes out a ton of enemies.
