The PA post actually put me in the mind of thinking about the various cool features of the mid '90s game.
Jetpacks. Tricksy holograms. Shrink-rays. I mean, there are entire games based on individual Duke features. Timed detonators! It's like they had access to a different alphabet, and somewhere they are still hoarding those secret letters. Why are all of those ideas in the same game? It's from 1996, and it still comes up in conversation. The Subway. The Bank. Virtually unlimited levels to play on, 20k or less in most cases.

I still have fond memories of jetpacking around, shooting pig-looking things with a nail gun while the holo-Duke kept their attention.

Duke Nukem was truly a revolutionary game. Gordon, Cakedaddy, and I used to have a lot of fun in Duke's multiplayer. The shrink ray was a particularly hilarious method of killing.

As for this "controversy" about the butt slapping mode, I doubt there really is one. The fringe elements of the media will try to say there's one, but the MSM should keep their mouths shut about it. Why? Because the last time I checked everyone appearing in front of a camera in the MSM was good looking and thin. Are we really expected to believe that the only people who can read a teleprompter happen to be good looking?

My favorite way was with the trip mines. We'd learn all the places to hide them, and knew to look for them, so getting trip mine kills became a challenge because we had to get really creative with them.

Crouching and placing them on a ramp made them invisible. We all started jumping every ramp.

I'm 99% sure I'm buying this on day 1.

Any pre-order freebies out there?

Just pre-ordered the Balls of Steel edition on amazon, because there were just too many cool looking extras for me to be able to resist.

Amazon sent me some access code for the duke website for even more extras.... don't have time to explore it right now.

Delayed.

This could end up being the practical joke of the generation.

You can now pre-order Duke Nukem Forever on Steam (10% off).

This is one of the very few games that I'm considering buying at full retail (well...with the 10% off).

12 years in development plus so many great memories from the first game...

Like multiplayer death matches...

There'd better be a collector's edition that comes with hookers and blow, or at least a hardback copy of "Duke Nukem Whenever: the 10th Circle of Development Hell" that chronicles why the fuck it took so long.

It's damn near worth buying for historical value alone.

How many patches until it's actually stable?

Have been messing around with the demo. So far it was fun and like the Duke I remember but I will end up waiting to buy it. Not a reflection of the game just too many games already so I will play those and wait for price drops.

I am not impressed. You can only hold two weapons, not the whole library like you use to be able to. You are able to carry pipe bombs and mines at least. The driving sucks.

I dunno. The whole feel of the game was lacking. I play a handful of FPS games, and they all work fine. This one, the controls just felt off. I kept trying to adjust my mouse tracking speed so things would feel right. I didn't try real hard to get it perfect, I just kept playing once they were good enough. I didn't go into expecting to be blown away, but I DID expect it to be more playable than it was.

Not getting a warm fuzzy.

Oh, and I'm sure everyone's seen it, but I didn't get a good vibe from Duke holding a console controller in the opening movie.
