It is really amazing how much the party of tolerance and "believe the science" loves to silence opposing viewpoints and dismiss any science that goes against their position.

So anytime a government agency helps out, that's socialism?

Bans Chinese citizens from buying land.

To be fair, that's a pretty simplistic way of describing the bill and doesn't even touch on the other two passed.

Very important note buried in the article:
The three bills passed both chambers of the Republican-controlled Florida legislature with bipartisan support.
Ok, so the banning Chinese people one has some acceptable caveats, but should have more. The first being, if someone is simply buying a home, let them? This is especially true if they're actively working towards citizenship.

The bill about "10 miles within infrastructure" makes sense for security, but perhaps expand that to all foreign entities or at least those in poor standing?

The last bill I'd have to see what the specifics are to judge it. I could definitely support keeping negative influences out of schools considering that it's been proven multiple countries have tried to interfere in our elections, news cycles, social media, etc.

Based on the news we've seen about secret Chinese police stations in major cities, Sharia law influencing things in Dearborn(?), and the foreign owned farmland/water usage controversies out West, this stuff can make sense, but the execution seems to be sloppy...as usual.

DeSantis does something awesome, while pissing off unions and adding blatant cronyism.

Awesome:
the legislation signed by DeSantis included term limits for school board members, raises and training programs for teachers, a Teachers' Bill of Rights aimed at helping teachers govern their classrooms and discipline disruptive students, and a social media and TikTok ban on internet access provided by the school.
Even the opponents didn't hate this stuff. (Seems the Rs took a page out of the D playbook by wrapping political maneuvering within legislation that will be politically popular with the public.)

Mixed depending on how you view unions:
The legislation prohibits the use of paycheck deductions for most public-sector union dues and increases to 60% required employee membership, potentially decertifying a union that can’t meet that threshold.

A union’s current annual financial report also would have to be audited by an independent certified public accountant, a provision that even some Republican lawmakers acknowledged could prove a threatening cost for some low-budget organizations.
I'm anti-union to a point. I get the purpose and they've done good things, but that doesn't mean everything they touch turns to gold. People certainly shouldn't be forced to be in one. Here in my union town I've seen far too many lazy, shitty people get protected by unions and I've seen unions cost their membership jobs with piss poor leadership. That being said, I think the payroll deductions thing is pointless. I don't hate 60% membership, but think it really should be 51%. I also love an independent CPA auditing any entity, unions included. Could it threaten low-budget orgs? Sure, so let's get them some subsidized CPA work.

Cronyism:
Public sector unions which usually endorse, contribute and work in the campaigns of Florida Republicans — correctional officers, law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responders — are exempt from the new requirements.
That is utter horseshit. You know who needs the most auditing? Everything at every level of government.

Florida changes school times.

Honestly, this is the correct move. School starts way too early and studies have shown that the lack of sleep is hurting kids. I realize the adjustment will be tough for some families, but businesses need to adapt to it as well. That should make it easier in the future for such families.

Meanwhile, this should help eliminate that time frame between when kids get home and their parents get home. That time frame is when lots of bad things have happened in the past.

Now they need to work on eliminating that other thing that hurts American kids' education...summer vacation.

CNN's top headline this morning was about Disney punching DeSantis in the dick by canceling a $1B project in Florida.

Counterpoint posted much later in the day sheds some light on Disney financially struggling.

Point being, yes, the fight with power hungry, self-sabotaging Dipshit makes the decision easier, but Disney is losing its ass right now. Their live action remakes are all bombing, Marvel movies/shows aren't doing the same business since "going woke", ditto for Star Wars movies/shows, Disney+ is hemorrhaging subscribers (down around 4M subs since the beginning of the year), and so on. Worse, most Americans see Disney more for "greed and political agendas" than "family friendly fun and entertainment" thanks to all the headlines, woke agenda, their prices, and all the little things they keep taking away from park visitors (bus to/from airport, now there's a charged daily lottery for the right to buy fast passes, overbooking special event nights and then not enforcing people without passes having to leave the park, etc.).

Disney hotel failure, Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser, is closing.

There's nobody to root for in the DeSantis-Disney fight, except maybe that guy on the board who wants to oust Iger and get back to the Disney that families trusted for entertainment.

I'd still root for Disney. But I really don't get it when people love capitalistic corporations. Like, they don't love you back, they love your money.

Disney didn't express a political opinion. They bent the knee to their gay workers who bought into the BS hype created by opposition to a bill. (We've covered elsewhere why that opposition is problematic.) They simply sided with the pitchfork wielding mob to ensure they didn't lose a bunch of workers who threatened to strike or quit if Disney didn't take a stand. FYI, Disney did nothing when a large pedo ring was rooted out of Disneyworld's employees. Seems like a strong condemnation there might have earned them some political points for later... Worse, they destroyed Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Marvel, and all the cartoons we grew up with by pushing woke ideology that most Americans, really most people, strongly disagree with. Additionally, they're displaying their greed by removing all the little details that used to make a Disney trip special and different from other family vacations while also jacking up the prices to ridiculous levels.

What's to root for?

If you're rooting for them, it's only because of bias towards their opposition, which is understandable. It's like how we root for anyone that plays our rival teams in sports ball.
