I need to get you over for another all-day marathon, with the HP movies.
Back off big man. Save that stuff for the ladies. But seriously, I wanted to see Firefly, I have zero desire to see Potter. The main character has a face that makes me want to hit him. He reminds me of Frodo, and all I did during the LOTR trilogy is root for Frodo to die.
As for the rest, I almost agree with you Gordo. I absolutely think that people are WAY too close minded when it comes to certain forms of entertainment, but at the same time, writing a front page post about it might make you, me, or anyone here a bit hypocritical.
Let's be honest, we'd look down on someone praising the merits of Paris Hilton as a role model. People claim Michael Moore's films are educational and based on fact. Ditto for Al Gore's enviro love fest. If a guy drove down the road blaring WHAM, you'd probably make a judgment about him. Malcolm hates everything. I think people who liked Cabin Fever are mentally challenged.
Yes, the majority of yahoos who blast stuff like Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, comics, video games, various TV shows, etc. are doing so, not because the source material is ass, but because their own small mindedness and insecurity doesn't allow them to accept that other people have different interests from them. Not to mention that if given the chance, they might actually enjoy it.
Now I, and I'm sure the majority of others here, try to base their opinions on experience. For example, I hated NSync because of experience. I hated them when they were called Menudo or...whatever the hell that boys group in the 80s/90s was called.
However, I'm still guilty of finding fault in things I know nothing about... (I can't name anything at the moment because so many new things are just rehashes with a twist on stuff we've already seen.)

What the hell is it about them that's entertaining?
Characters? Plot? Atmosphere? All of the things in that universe are repugnant to me.

The 2nd Harry Potter movie was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my whole life.
The only reason we saw it is that in ice storm hit the area and knocked out power to 95% of the area, and the movie theater had power.
Leaving the theatre, my father-in-law said "I'll only see the third one if the roof's blown off the house."

We had a chance to go to the drive in recently and really wanted to see Ratatouille, but it was playing with the new HP. So we went to the normal theater instead.
I turned down a free movie at lower cost to avoid HP. That's how little it interests me.

There's so many worse movies, I'm not sure where all the knee-jerk HP hate comes from.
At least Catt saw the 2nd movie before he decided it sucked... Catt, had you seen the 1st one?
And I'm not angry that people are spoilering HP specifically. I'm angry because they are assholes and are going out of their way to be assholes to other people. That kind of thing has always angered me. I was brought to thins planet to vanquish people like this, after all.

I'm not hating on the Potter films, they're just not my thing. That's why I have no desire to see them, and even if I did, I'm not jumping into #3. I'd need to see #1 and #2 first.
I just have no desire to see a bunch of teenage witches. That doesn't mean I'm slamming those that do.
I do hate fuckers who post spoilers though. Especially when it's intentional. You have to figure that their dicks have to be really, really small to be forced to do stupid hit like that to feel better about themselves.

The last couple movies... darker. And the spoielrs I've been exposed to... darker yet. Not really kid movies any more, in my opinion.

It reminds me of several things I hate. Actors the world probably never should've known, the most trite & annoying aspects of British literature/storytelling, & a rabid, avid fanbase of people that have bought it all hook, line, & sinker. It is their fucking RELIGION. I see nothing spectacular or shiny about it. I do not understand why in the name of Cthulu's Infernal Asshole this thing caught on like it did. There's lines to be drawn. Yea, I waited in line when Lucas rereleased the trilogy for the first time, but I wasn't dressed like Han Solo. I find Harry Potter & everything associated w\ him extremely boring. & to certain people, that is tantamount to sticking their balls in a blender & sprinkling salt on the remnants.

Eh, the HP movies are ... okay at best. The books are pretty good, fun and not very deep, but the movies have so much cut out that they lose any subtlety and end up being whinefests to one degree or another on the part of at least one main character per movie.
Still, not horrible.

Yes, and I thought it was bad too, though not as bad.
The 3rd and 4th movies were certainly better than those two, but not great.
