Any ideas about creature leveling? Do creatures spawn at a given level given where they are, or in relation to your level, or some combo? Generally, enemies have been around my own level, or slightly lower. Accidentally stumbled on a place full of 12s (I'm 9) today.

I tend to wander/explore instead of just following the plot/quests.

Certain areas are made, I believe, keyed into level X (your level). Some areas might go X-1 or X+1, for a simple example.

I think 22-25, somewhere in there.

I'll be on, possibly early, but I might get pulled away for a moment to do some insurance thing.

Funny. Last night my internet dropped, so I went to the basement to look at the modem.

Which is when I saw my water heater was starting to leak, completely unrelated to the modem, which came back on a minute later.

So I was able to fix the valve in the water heater before it blew out. Because I went to the basement at midnight to check the modem.

I've got a sniper rifle for you. It does 681 damage and another 100 or so per sec in elemental. It's good against shields. Got it out of the golden chest after you logged.

Something I may have stumbled upon with the golden chest and the slots...

I think what you get might be based upon what you're holding.

When I opened the chest I had 3 sniper rifles in my inventory along with an assault rifle and a handgun.

My existing sniper rifles were all in the 300 points of damage range.

When I was playing slots I had all the sniper rifles in my inventory and it started giving me more sniper rifles. I got one that does 500+ and another doing just less than 650.

It makes me wonder if the game tries to match equipment you're carrying?

We should get all the best handguns, grenades, shields, or whatever and give them to one person and then have them open the chest to see what happens.

Malcolm, you seem to be on the wikis or whatever, has this already been tried?

To my knowledge...

- item generation has more possibilities than BL1 (which was already in the tens or hundreds of millions, I think ... certainly millions) ... one does not increase the number of possibilities by placing weird dependencies on random factors like what people have in their backpacks
- item generation is affected by the host's level
- item generation for the gold chest is no different than normal item generation except it restricts the colour to purple or higher
- claim is "more players = more monsters = better loot" ... whether it's because "more monsters = more rolls of the dice" or more players directly means better loot remains to be seen
- I have never read any reports of items you're holding affecting loot generation or anything else besides level

As someone on the wiki said, "You can roll a 20-sided die 100 times and never see a 20. That's not even an odd occurrence in the grand scheme of things." I will say I took out Crawmerax in BL1 near 100 times and never saw a cyan drop, though.

I've seen G pull two snipeys. Didn't someone burn through two keys and get nothing but four class mods or something? I've seen combat rifles pulled when you aren't holding any. I've seen launchers pulled when no one's holding any.

It just seemed to be an odd coincidence that I started the night with 3 sniper rifles doing 300 or so damage each with various elemental components, and ended the night with more than 1 doing double that damage.

Yeah, sometimes there are odd boosts, but the game absolutely bases some stats in the items on your level.

My mechromancer was level 15 or so and had a sniper rifle doing 125 or something. I walked up to a gun machine and they were selling one in the normal list that did 340+. I bought it, and never saw any other sniper rifles (in her game) doing close to that damage for 6 levels at least.

On top of that, that specific sniper rifle was usable at her low level, yet check the machines in our game, and you'll find ones doing similar damage, but their level will be around 22-23 where we are...

And here's a funny little support email from Gearbox:

I've still got a pistol that's level 15 (I'm now 23) that still does more damage than any other pistol of any colour I've seen thus far. It's blue. That implies there's a purple version that could be pulling more. The stats displayed to you in game are only part of the overall stats of the gun. There are other factors they hide from you. Jacking up the damage might mean killing stability, for instance.

There are some guns I throw away despite higher damage. In fact, this is what Cake and I were talking about last night. We both hate the assault rifles that shoot in arcs. Those are essentially grenade launchers. The problem is that most of the enemies in the game are ultra mobile or even fly, so I find them to be difficult to use, and the damage isn't that superior usually.

I thought blue was better than purple...

Isn't it white, green, purple, blue, orange, and ?.
