It doesn't seem like it was on purpose... but it definitely screws up your sight picture when you are zoomed in on something and suddenly one of those energy rounds is in your field of view.
Anecdote: Once I was zoomed in and a soldier w/bazooka stood right in front of me... I fired through the opening of his bazooka and got a kill. They're hollow.

What am I getting killed by when the little 'death icon' in the upper right corner looks like I got hit with an envelope?

That would be the pyro's Postal Pummeler, which is just a reskin of the Axetinguisher.
Those people are brilliant. I was hoping for a woman-reveal after all the, "Who knows what madness lies in his heart" stuff, but what they did was even better.

Absolutely perfect.
I had been somewhat dreading this video. I couldn't imagine where they would take it that would do the character justice yet still fit in well with the other videos. But this was just exactly right!

With half of my LoL team out this week, I might be tempted to take a look at TF2 again this week. Although, I'm pretty sure I don't own any hats...

Just FYI, if anyone here hasn't played TF2 in awhile, you might want to install it again and check out the new Mann vs Machine coop maps. It's multiple waves of robots that must be fought off. The harder modes need adjustment and are a bit too frustrating, but normal mode is a blast. But really it's all about the upgrade system, where you pick up cash dropped by the bots and use it to purchase various upgrades to weapons and whatnot, some of which are rather fun.
Most classes and weapons have rather generic upgrade options with a few exceptions. I'm hoping they'll make the choices more diverse over time. Not that I'll be playing it regularly for much longer. But for now, it's rather fun and worth going back to the game to try out if you've liked it at some time in the past.
There's something disconcerting about that flywheel-jutter the robots have.
Are the robots played by people, or does the computer run them?

They're AI, and they're pretty well done. You can fool them with some maneuvers, but on the whole they do make use of some moderately advanced tactics like flanking from time to time.
And yes, the art and animation is very good, as usual for TF2.
