Whipple previously spent five seasons as UMass' head coach, and also coached quarterbacks at both the NFL and college levels. Whipple had been mentioned as a candidate for Nebraska's offensive coordinator vacancy.

That former Pitt OC has to be going to Nebraska, right?

UVA to hire the OC as HC.
You were scooped!

Totally missed that. Dammit.
Here's one to make up for it:
He should take it and run. He's probably not going to win the title in the weakest ever year of the CFB, his team loses a ton of talent and experience, his recruiting classes haven't been awesome, he's going to lose that DC sooner rather than later, his brother probably doesn't have more coaches to throw his way and bail him out, he would be going to an ideal situation, and it's out West where he wants to end up.
The final measuring stick that should tell Jim now is the time to leave? Me and a whole lot of OSU fans don't want him to go. He's 1-5 against OSU and it took a perfectly executed game in a snow storm at home (Important note: It should have been at the Shoe, but TTUN forfeited last year and messed up the rotation.) and a ton of our team suffering from the flu for him to get that win. We want TTUN to overreact and think Jimmy's got that program on equal footing with OSU now. He's getting beat by 4 or more TDs next year in Columbus.

I mean, leave when you're on top, and get paid.

I fully expect him to leave. I've heard a lot of things over the years that would support that. I just don't think he thought it would take this long. I've heard a lot that his wife hates the weather, didn't want him to take the job, and he would win a championship and then bail. We do lose a lot next year, I have no idea about recruiting, etc. So, I don't expect a repeat. It's going to take more than 1 season for me to think we've recovered from the last 15.
I also think he took the pay cut to be able to stay because, what would his options be? "Hey. We're looking for an ok coach who wins most of his games." Maybe he can go to Pittsburgh?
And, ya. Of course it took a perfectly executed game to beat a number 2 team. To say the weather helped, we both had to play in it, so I'm not sure how that was an advantage. I would argue that the score would have been closer if you had all your players (and us too), but I don't think that would have guaranteed you the game. They have been playing REALLY well.
So, while I'm not surprised we won, because there was definitely something different about this team, I would have been equally not surprised if we had lost. Because. . . the last 15 or whatever years. It was a hard game to watch. The whole game was "Cool. We scored. But they'll fuck it up somehow. Cool, they scored again. But they'll fuck it up somehow." I don't think I was comfortable with how the game was going until about 2 minutes left. Then I felt they wouldn't choke and throw it all away.
Even the game against Iowa. The whole first half I'm thinking "The only reason we have points are because of two big plays that happened to work out for us. Other than that, Iowa is shutting us down (and us them)". The second half was much more enjoyable.
I think it would take a few years of winning before I feel like we are relevant again.
But to try to cheapen the win we finally managed against a non-off years OSU. . . blah. You're better than that. We played a perfect game, because that's what we had to do.
And I would also put an asterisk on your 8 year win streak. Because we all know what would have happened last year. I'm glad you don't have the win, but I'm not proud of it.

Because we're a passing team first, our run D has been suspect all year (except against MSU), you are a run first team, and your pass D is suspect. The weather clearly favored you. On a faster, warmer field, the results probably shift, but who cares? That's a hypothetical. Got to play where the schedule says. We did. We lost. Time to move onto next year.

Obviously I agree and you have always been more of a sane fan. You don't lose a "ton" of people, so much as the people you do lose are key, like Hutchinson. Hell, just take him off the field and I'm not sure TTUN wins at all. The guy was that much of a factor. What a great player.

1. That's part of any rivalry. Ask Catt his feelings on Duke.
2. The youngest OSU team in 20 years that's starting a freshman QB for the first time since the 60s or something and that had to replace their DC midseason with a temporary dude is absolutely an off year. Sure, OSU's off years are different from other programs', but it is what it is. Same with Bama. This is an off year for them too, and they're probably going to win the title.
3. I face a LOT of TTUN fans. Whether they be family, friends, or randoms on the interwebs, the shit I have seen...a large part of your fanbase acts like you just won the last 20 games against us. Like you've been a national power year in and year out. I've legit seen people bragging about how Harbaugh "owns" OSU. Harbaugh...who is 1-5 against OSU...owns them. These people aren't kidding either. It's embarrassing and other TTUN fans call them out on it. Granted, all fan bases have those idiots. I'm also dealing with people who think Day needs to be fired, are unhappy with Knowles being hired, think Heisman finalist Stroud sucks/didn't turn a corner during the season, and so on. Thus, sometimes I like to roll around in the slop with the pigs. Sports gives us the opportunity to do that.
Know this: I will NOT be rooting for TTUN in the CFP, but I won't be actively rooting against them either. I already stated my ideal playoffs would see them and Cincy rout their SEC opponents and then Cincy routing TTUN in the final. However, if they happen to win it all, there will be a part of me that will be happy for certain TTUN fans, you among them. I spent some time the evening of The Game congratulating the TTUN fans I am close to on FB. (Sorry I missed you.) I will do the same IF they win it all. I won't be happy about it though.

Since the relevant part of the 2020 season is over, preseason rankings for 2021
Football - OSU #5; UNC #6
!RmindMe 12/31/2021
Well, they got 2 of the top 4 basically right. OSU basically right. And UNC just shat the bed. Michigan was #27 in this ranking.
Leisher wrote: Congrats on the bowl game tonight Catt! I wish you had qualified 1 week earlier because you had a win over Clemson.
Lol. I'm happy with the season we had. We have a really, really good QB. With some more talent we could be 8-4 next year, and aiming for 9-3/10-2 in 2021.
!RmindMe 12/1/2021
So they did make 8-4 in the weird covid year. But, 6-6 in 2021.

Stanford fucks PAC-12. So it's basically up to the B10, Oklahoma, and Cincinatti to join Bama-UGA.
!Rmindme 12/10/2021
I'm going to say I was right. With Bama-UGA in, Cincy + UofM joined them.
