It was called "Smear the queer" and it had absolutely nothing to do with LGBTQ. It simply rhymed. Related: Gay used to just mean happy. And to be fair, considering their divorce and DV rates are so much lower than straights and lesbians, it seems to be an appropriate word.

It really is amazing how upset an ad campaign for jeans has made people. I would bet you any amount of money if they had used Rhiannon instead of blonde haired, blue eyed Sydney Sweeney, the same people bitching wouldn't have said shit, even though, by their logic, they should...
Oh wait, Beyonce did, in fact, do a jeans ad campaign, which was met with zero controversy.
