WNBA controversy.

TLDR:
Their championship was yesterday or something? Who knew and who cares. Anyway, a call at the end decided the game.
Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve said the call “decided the game,” adding the game – and WNBA championship – was “stolen from us.”
Even Lebron tweeted out disgust for the call.

So here's your conspiracy theory:
Like the actual NBA, the WNBA needed NY to win. Small market Minnesota doesn't move the needle like big market NY. Seriously, this is right out of David Stern's playbook. (Stern being the man who made the NBA what it is today.) Stern had contempt for his small market teams and famously stated his dream Finals matchup would be the LA Lakers vs the LA Lakers. Stern has also long been accused of rigging games. Ex-players talk openly these days about knowing if the league wanted them to lose because a special crew of officials would be brought in to officiate a game. There are gamblers who made good money by betting one way or the other when they saw these guys were officiating. Not only do players discuss this stuff, but so did Tim Dona-whatever, the ref that was caught rigging games, that the NBA pretended acted alone. (Hint: According to ex-players, another ref, and actual mobsters, he didn't.)

Based on everything I now know about the NBA and their scandal, plus with BBall being the easiest sport for an official to manipulate, I'd say I'm 50/50 on this one.

As we've discussed, it's pretty obvious someone is desperate to make the WNBA a thing. Getting a large market a win and generating controversy so people are talking about it is not something I'd put past anyone these days.

Which part of the negative $40 million do they want?

Explaining the screenshot below.

Apparently, during Sunday's games, YouTube was forcing the WNBA final in people's multiscreen viewing and people were pissed.

Not sure who is running corporations, marketing agencies, and PR firms these days, but it appears they're all rapists. Nobody else believes forcing things on people will make them love it.

Two things.

1) YTTV only does X # of multi-views, cuz it costs them resources to do it.

2) Once you have 2 games in a screen, they are all 4-game sized, so from YTTV's perspective, may as well put all 3 together.

I have no idea if that impacts viewership numbers, or how those #s work for multicasts.

I accept the "throw a fourth game...ANY game...in the fill the screen" explanation.

However, in 2024, they should know who is watching and what they watch. If the WNBA isn't in their history, it should have looked for a better option. Like static... :D

Saturday I had 3 games I wanted to watch. YTTV had like 10 different 4 game combos, none of which had all 3 of the games I wanted.

I should just buy more TVs.

Funny Babylon Bee WNBA pay story.

This is because Angel Reese, pictured in that story, just said WNBA players deserve to make what NBA players make. She is also trying to lead a players' strike until they get what they want.

Reminder: The WNBA has NEVER made a profit and would have folded long ago if not funded by the NBA.

This article has good details and shows Caitlyn Clark's take, which is more realistic than Angel's.

Saw a funny comment on one of the Angel Reese tweets. Dude said, "Why don't you go trans, play in the NBA, and then you'll get paid 'what you're worth'?"

Well done. Insulting two delusional groups in one comment.

Transpeople in sports. Such a non-issue that no transmen are competing for championships in men's sports.

Sports fans have probably seen Caitlyn Clark's hard foul on Angel Reese.

However, today the rest of the video is coming out, and lo and behold, there's context.
Meanwhile, the WNBA plans to investigate "hateful fan comments", but hasn't raised a finger to stop this shit (or players and former players making hateful remarks about Caitlyn): I lost the clip, but the new white girl on the block (the star of this year's tournament) is already getting the same treatment.

Plays like this are why they're trying to make her the face of the WNBA!
Meanwhile, in the players' vote for their All Star game, Caitlyn Clark was voted the 9th best guard. The single best player in the WNBA and the reason every metric is up for the league, and she's the 9th best guard? I wonder if there's some other factor that could explain why the mostly black players voted her so low? It's a mystery!

White players, particularly the stars, keep getting mauled in games. I wonder why?
