I watched it late last night. I was familiar with most of the shows discussed, and yes, the complaints were valid.

Rings of Power, at the very least, were not fully fleshed out stories. So fine, take artistic liberties.

WoT is a completed, successful, coherent story right now. So it especially pissed me off for the last 2 seasons, because it absolutely was not the story in the books in favor of "feminist power fantasy," as Drinker put it. I have no idea how they can make the story work going forward as much as they've fucked the lore.

They made changes to one aspect of the lore to make women more powerful, but then didn't change the things that happen in the society that they hunt men because men are too powerful, so it literally contradicts itself and doesn't make sense. It seems like they fear and hunt male magic users because they're just evil assholes. But there used to be a logic to it. And the back half of the story is dependent on the male magic power..........

No industry is in such a desperate need of new voices from top to bottom.

It makes a little sense when you remember that their primary mission as the head of these entertainment divisions IS NOT to make good entertainment. The goal is still to create dividends for stock holders. Somehow they must still be doing that while gutting existing franchises. I suspect "generate controversy before it's even released by calling everyone racist" is part of the marketing budget. Outrage generates clicks. Clicks are ad revenue. So the worst they fuck it up, the more people that are talking about it. "I see this as an absolute win," they probably say.

I don't know. I'm sure Catt could break down a lot better why ESG became a thing and what the promise of it was.

Just imagine if instead of grocery stores the government just provided a nutrition paste that is designed to appeal to everyone, equally. That would be a much better way of making sure every american has the right to be fed and stuff.

I do. It's bad enough they made Felix black in the Craig series. And put multiple black women in roles at MI6. And they constantly are putting blacks into roles in period pieces, and making arguments that because Romans were in ancient Britain, and because Romans were in North Africa, therefore Britain was always chock-a-block with blacks. It would be baffling if we didn't know that They Hate Whites.

Blacks, at ~4% of the current UK population (it should be zero) aren't even the 2nd largest non-white demo...that's Pakis (at ~9%, which should be negative zero). Why don't they make a Paki Bond?

Actually...I shouldn't care. Bond as a character doesn't make sense outside the early Cold-War millieu. Just like I've blocked Rings of Power out of my conscious, so too I should with Bond. It's just that I recently re-watched Casino Royale, and it was pretty good. Except for Black Felix.

Casino Royale was great.

As for Bond, cultural appropriation aside (which I'm always told is bad, except when everyone non-white does it), the reason I don't care if he's black is because it truly doesn't matter for the character. Yes, it's FAR more likely that a person from the UK would be white. However, that doesn't mean all their agents would be white. I think most agencies would have assets whose heritage is that of whatever region they need to send someone in as deep cover. Although, to be fair, that was never Bond's job.

And I really only argue this because I think Idris Elba could be an interesting Bond. Realistically though, Henry Cavill is the proper choice.

If they desperately want to cast a minority actor, there are other "double Os".
